You are missing the corn to the east which is a lot better then the wheat. With 2 farms, the corn and the cows he can work all 4 gold mines for massive production and commerce. But I agree that splitting up the gold mines could be a good idea, however if there isn't a food resource close there it will be useless. Looks like a lot of coast to the W/NW.
i believe it's emperor mice, but with this start it's more like monarch or a hard prince. jeeze...i might play this and try to grab liberalism with oracle
I didn't see the corn at first and was like "what a tease! not even enough food to work all of them "
Assuming enough land and resources, should be a pretty straight forward culture win. I'd get agr and mining first, BW for some chops, then try for monotheism and then CoL the short way. I'd take Theology with the Oracle. Build the AP for extra hammers and to stir up trouble on other landmass.
Grow the city probably rather than worry about an early settler. A second city probably isn't going to contribute as much as those gold mines. Those gold mines with Bureaucracy, a Library, and academy will get you over 100 beakers/turn. That might be enough by itself to get a cultural victory.
holy moly there's gold in them thar hills! I'm salivating over this one... I might settle 1 NE on the golden hills then plop a second city near the wheat and gold in the south
I played this one last night for about 150 turns and was in last place but that's no surprise as this is Emperor. But otherwise I was doing well and it is a good start, got a few wonders but just lost out on the Pyramids.
Except I don't like the resource placement elsewhere on the island, kind of funky. Anyone got a good dotmap?
ps after seeing everthing I really don't like where you settled, I would have preferred to move the settler east and put another city to share the gold so all 4 gold can be worked more often. this capital as it is now cannot afford to be working all the gold tiles as much. still it's a good capital.
Ah, so the typical meaning of the word isolated. I was wondering how he knew it was an isolated start in 4000 BCE, so I figured that he might be using some weird game terminology the below-Monarch players wouldn't know about.
Then, of course, I realize he could just play the game or peak in Worldbuilder and then post the save online.
I saw a similar starting position in my last game...3 gold, 3 clams and a corn in the fat cross, with a 4th gold just outside. Unfortunately, it wasn't MY starting position, it was Hattie's--so although I'm usually a builder-type, I just had to become a warmonger in that game to take Thebes away from her!
