isolation?

has anyone started a game on a map where you have control of an island (no other civs on it) and ont explore or make contact with anyone untill you have nukes or tanks??

i tried but the game always makes a civ land on my island in a ship .

I used to, but in multiplayer this is your sure death. You have to be aggressive and expansionist in order to survive.

I made a map once where I start on an island completely surrounded by glaciers, but they still land. Must be some kind of "polar expeditions". The AI is so stupid.
