Heya

I used to mod for Civ2 but havn't done much for Civ3 except for myself. Well, I'm back but not that anyone will remember me...

Anyhow, I almost finished "Isramod" which adds Israel to the playable civilizations. It is focused mainly on the ancient Kingdom with David as leader but not exclusively.

While I'm having no problems with XML and I'm looking forward to work with python I'm a complete utter amateur when it comes to graphics so I could use some help mainly for the leaderhead and the UU.

I'm currently using Cyrus as leaderhead while I'm browsing through the Civ3 files because I remember that I've seen David somewhere.

Other than the graphics the mod is almost complete except that I havn't decided on a UU yet - again - mainly because I have no graphics available. My favorite would be a Maccabee unit replacing Swordsman with additonal special bonus for city defense and against mounted units. But at this early stage of moding I will take whatever is available - Merkava modern armor, Zanchanim infantery or maybe an UU replacing the spearman with some special bonus to account for David's armies.

Today I worked on the diplomusic. Got the tracks for middle ages/renaissance and industrial/modern worked out.

Also, I found a track of a supposed ancient Israeli tune that might even go back more than two millennia preseverd by the Jews of Kurdistan which is played with traditional middle eastern instruments that were already in use by the ancient civilizations in Mesopotomia. I'm not sure yet if I will include it since it might not be easy to listen too for westerners - it's a bit psychedelic with drums and repeating tunes and it might lead people into getting rid of their Israeli neighbor civ just to stop the damn music :). So ancient/classic music track is still open.

I got no feedback about the graphics yet so I started by myself - still could use help though since I'm not very good at it :). But I just finished the button.

How about giving their settlers a modest combat factor? As a UU that might be quite cool. You could pull an Exodus.

Great mod ! Look foward to playing Israel

Could you do me a favor and either email me your Hebrew flag or make it public so I could download it. It looks great

It's the button only - I will have the flag for download soon. The button is showing the official emblem of Israel which is the Menorah - which incidentally was a symbol used in ancient Israel too. So it covers both periods.

It seems though I didn't save the button correctly, something is wrong with the alpha channel... gotta figure that out :).

how about modifying the israelis in such a way that they may not grow or receive bonuses from pig and shellfish or any other unclean food.

A few examples of unclean animals are the ape, bat, bear, camel, dog, donkey, elephant, fox, hyena, hippo, horse, jackal, leopard, lion, llama, rabbit, pig, mule, mouse, whale, and zebra.

anyhing that lives in the water is off limits save for the fish
no bottom feding fish either

When I did the Hebrews as a Civ in Civ3, I made the Machabee their unique unit. Just an FYI...

But there's no guarantee 'Israel' will become Jewish in Civ. And not being allowed to trade pigs, crabs and clams to Jewish-religion civs, though cool, is probably beyond Civ's remit :)
