Good that the supervisor was sacked, but he really belongs in prison for workplace discrimination and death threats.

Poor guy was a victim of Michelle Obama's vision for a United Police States of America.

It's not just her comments though. It's this prevailing attitude now in the US that anyone who expresses an unpopular view gets hounded by the media and so-called "civil rights activists" until their lives are utterly destroyed. Michelle Obama's comments seem to be serving to reinforce this attitude and that is a very bad thing for the future of freedom of speech.

I mean, weren't we all told as children that people should be allowed to express their views without consequence, even if we don't agree? Now losing your job or being forced to sell your business (Donald Sterling) because you made a racist remark sure seems like being punished for having an unpopular view to me.

Remember, a democratic society is judged by how well it protects those who hold the minority viewpoint, not by how well it panders to the majority.

He belongs in prison for the death threats, but for work discrimination? Is that punishable by jail? Being fired (or fined if you own the business) seem more logical...

Wouldn't jail be a more effective way of lowering discrimination that affirmative action?

It would certainly end open discrimination much faster, yes. But it's a bit of a crazy move.

I have to admit I don't know the penalty for workplace discrimination. But he should definitely be imprisoned for death threats, which don't get taken nearly seriously enough.

White people are not represented nearly enough in America's jail communities. We need affirmative action to send more white people to jail, so that the demographics of America's jails more closely correspond to America itself.

So yeah, send this guy to jail. It's a good start.

Why do you seem to be against every measure proposed to combat discrimination? After all, discrimination in hiring, firing, and promotion is practically theft of earnings. If you drive someone out of a job because of the discriminatory workplace you create, it is much like forcing a clerk away from a cash register.

I said he deserves to be fired for his discrimination, how is that being against every measure to oppose discrimination?

As for the rest of your post, you're being ridiculous. If you actually believe in that, which I strongly doubt, then I'm just glad you're not a policy maker.

If he is fired, he should be appreciative of the free room and board that jail provides. Plus, if he goes to he right facility, he can enjoy the whites only part of the prison yard.

You can't be serious! He threatened to hang someone, that goes way beyond free speech. Uttering death threats is a crime in most civilized nations, I guess the US isn't quite there yet. And don't bother replying to this post, I find your whole attitude offensive and I intend on ignoring you from now on.

Yeah! What's this world coming to when you can't even threaten to lynch a black guy for something as abhorrent as sharing the same water fountain as you?! GOD DAMN LIBERAL POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

I've discovered during my years online that many American posters don't understand the concept of "hate speech," and they're horrified to discover that Canada has laws against it.

Fixed

When I saw the thread title I knew it was racism. For the record, JollyRoger is CFC's greatest satirist.

The cotton warehouse owner has helpfully pointed out it was not his fault. He contracted the operations of that facility out. The money was his. The blame was not. He is shocked, shocked anyone would think otherwise.

I have serious doubts about that frankly. You don't work with a person for that long without getting some sense of what he/she's like. I strongly believe he's only taking action now because of the media attention.

I don't really care. Even in jest, I find comments like his repulsive.

He's mocking a thread Commodore made earlier saying that he felt uncomfortable about Michelle Obama's statements on fighting racism. Of course, Commodore probably doesn't actually think this guy has the right to make death threats.
