Itunes Question

I have a Prince Caspian Digital copy from Disney. There are two ways I can download it: Itunes or windows media player. I'm having trouble with the media player option so I'm thinking about trying Itunes. This brings me to my question. What exactly do I need to use itunes? I don't have an Ipod, I don't have a credit card/debit card, and I'm a minor (17). Do any of these things exclude me from getting one? Does it cost money to use itunes? I know you generally have to buy the songs you want to download but could I get a itunes account simply to download the Digital Copy to my computer? Also, if I do so, would I only be able to watch the movie using itunes or could I also use a different program (such as windows media center)? Also, what are the pros and cons of Itunes? Thank you very much for your help.

I'm not sure if this should be in Computer talk or somewhere else. If it should be elsewere, please tell me so I can ask a mod to move it.

iTunes is free but it's a bloated piece of crap and it'd probably be DRM'd. So I wouldnt go for it.

Make sure the proper codecs are installed. I use K-Lite Codec Pack myself but some other people here recomended CCCP.

You will need an iTunes account to get anything from the iTunes store, including free stuff.

There are ways of getting around needing a credit card for your iTunes account. I believe if you gift yourself something free, it will give you the option to sign up to redeem that gift. Look it up for more info.

As for watching it, I believe it will be DRM'd, although to what extent I do not know. Really, if I were you, Id have no moral qualms about downloading a ripped copy of the movie from somewhere. You paid for a digital copy, you should be able to use it as you wish.

Can I just legally bypass/disable/etc the DRM on the movie so I don't have to use the digital download? Could I legally just copy my DVD version of the movie to my computer's hard-drive? I know that I couldn't distribute the files but I'm sure that keeping a copy on my personal computer would count as fair use in the USA. I have a legal copy of the movie on DVD.
If I am wrong and this does not fall under fair use or violates some other US law, please tell me so I can ask a mod to delete the post

You'd have to decrypt it and then rip it. If you can get your hands on a copy of DVD Decrypter, it should do the first job fine. Then passing the processed files through Handbrake should give you a playable video file.

Look up how to rip a dvd on videohelp.com for more specific instructions.
