JJ01-Moving up to Monarch

Yeah, I believe you are right. Maybe vassalage/theo would be better for building up the cav? Or draft cats and defensive units using Nationhood before switching for the cav buildup? I wonder if we should have waited on the Golden Age until we had Cav available.

The golden age is from the Taj Mahal. I could have delayed the completion of it but then we would have run the risk of someone else getting it before us.

I made the mistake of not recalling that it requires military tradition AND gunpowder for cavalry. I was thinking that once military tradition came in I would be able to start them immediately, but of course I still had to get gunpowder.

I have started sending a number of macemen and catapults towards our city nearest to Qin's on our continent. I like macemen as you can give them city attack promotions and then upgrade them to grenadiers. Grenadiers with a few city attack promotions are great for taking down cities.

luker comment

You guys should start thinking about a victory condition, too at this point. Once you guys take out Qin, perhaps plan on beelining to Assembly Line to get the jump on prod over the AI.

...and sometimes you learn more by deabating and hashing things out amongst yourselves then by having everything shown to you...:goodjob:

Our first lurker comment, yaayy!

I agree with Pholkhero: let the vigorous hashing out of strategies begin! Any thoughts on type of victory? Ideas on the tech path? Other input?

No problem I think about the GA, Kikinit. I suspect we will have more than enough military might to take out Qin and the GA is helping us build cats and stuff anyhow.

T0)
Thy we are building useless Ligthouses in new cities insted of granaries?
Remove all specialists to make a full use of Golden age.
Do not undestand why south city was diviated from dot map, as we loose crab food resource that is critical to city and 2 grassland ties. Choisen location render this city useless.

Traded Khan Music - Compas
1) Elisabet TheoLogy+Philosofy- Guilds
Rysvelt Philosofy - Optics
Khan Guilds+Philosofy - Engenereeng

2) Changing building, do some whipping
3) Gunpowder-Printing press
start ordered cavalry around
4) We got GS, spend to add 1700 to printing press
5) Prining press- constitution
6) revolted to theocracy. WE do not need serfdom, as we allmost finish all work.
7-9 ordering more and more cavalry. Build 2 caravels and send exploring in 2 directions. Converted Bejin to Confuse.
finsih building Galeys.
Use GM to give as 1900 GC, set research to 100%

T9 Chinise city revolted to as and I disband it.
10) constitution - democracy (seens you decided to safe GE the best use for it will be to hurry statye of liberty.

11) Revolted to republic.

WE in full military build up.
I hired a lot of specialists to use republic more.

Quin has grenadeers, but not rifless. We need to hit him very soon or we will e late.
Please, remember, military os first priority right now.

Suggest attack as soon as 3 galey at border, do not forget to put them outcide quin land befor declaring.

I am at work and have not had time to check this for a while. I plan on reviewing our situation tonight and hopefully can play my turns then.

BTW Mutineer - welcome back!

I am very pessimistic about this game. Plan is not follow.
You build a lot of absolite Macemen insted of planed Missionaries. Waster about 1000 shields production in bad city managment.
Not used GE forced you to spend all this turns building wanders insted of preparation for invasion. Waster time not founding cities. Build an useless city.
Waster time building univercaties in warter cities. They do not really produce enoght sci to justify that. I push you up to strong enoght position so you still sort of ok, but opponents did not sleep all this time.

ON plan note.

Bangalore need to be whiped (But not for 1 pop) and switched to specialists.

A few tiurns befor actial invasion switch to Nationalism and draft from food rich cities with reserve happiness. Capital can be converted to GP farm at that point, as it would not benefit from burocracy.

Pre-turn: buildup to attack Qin. We only have 2 galleys on hand, others are enroute from the other side of our continent. Right now we have 3 cavalry, 8 maces and 7 cats -- not nearly enough, as Guangzhou alone has 9 defenders & Qin has Grenadiers now.

- Whip the univ. in Bangalore.

T1:
- Hire a couple of scientists in Bangalore.
Not sure why we are building a duct in Djenne (no health problems as yet). Then again it will eventually grow quite large, so I leave it.
- No great trade deals, only Roos. will trade Banking but it seems like too sweet a deal for him so I leave it alone.

<IBT: meet Isabella; Delhi cav => cav.; Bombay cav => cav.>

T2:
- Newly built units head to staging area in Calcutta.
- Isabella is second to last in score, doesn't even know Bank yet.
- Whip granary in Kolhapar => forge.

<IBT: Lizzie offers Banking for Paper & 430G, I decline; Delhi cav => cav; Madra harbor => univ.>

T3:

<IBT: Lahore rax => workboat; Qin builds Shandong on the land east of Calcutta. That's OK, he pulled 2 LB out of Guangzhou to do it, and it will give our excess maces something to do when the war starts.>

T4:
- Galleys still headed to the jumping off point, caravels are progressing towards circumnavigating the world.

<IBT: Timbuktu cav => cav.>

T5:
- Trade Roos. silk for 10 gpt.

<IBT: Delhi cav => cav; Democracy => Chemistry; Roos. demands we cancel deals with Mongols (nope -- he is likely target after Qin is gone).>

T6:
- Switch Delhi to Statue of Liberty, use GE towards it. Due in 9 turns.

I will stop here for team discussion.

- We have just 2 galleys on hand to invade with, the 3rd is 6 turns away with another one right behind it. Our army is up to 9 cav., 8 maces and 7 cats. Personally I would like a few more cavs. and at least one more galley more we declare.

- Research is set for Chemistry, but no beakers are invested yet. My thinking was to go for Chem => Steel => Railroad. I find cannon to be quite effective when attacking high-culture cities with lots of defenders, especially since we are looking at grenadiers. Getting Iron Works in Timbuktu would be nice too.

- Regarding civics, I would go for Emancipation / Nationalism. Although there are still a few whipping opportunites out there, so maybe we don't want to switch quite yet.

Here is the current situation on our border with Qin:

jj01_1520ad.JPG

I am agree with research plan and civic plan. Emancipation will put unhappiness preasure on our competitors.
Timbyki best get Wespoint when we can build it (Need L5 expirience unit).

Heroic epic/westpoint are the best combination.
Iron work better go in some onther higth production city.

Dijeen allredy whiped most of argent infrastrycture but have very little shields. It is now time to it to grow and working cottagesss. Some farm need to be converted to cottagess, but watch out you did not destroy chain irrigation.

we can attack with 2 galeys I suppous, but will need to few turns to fairy everything in. It is better to drop our army not in one stack, but 2 or even 3 in order to decrease collateral damage. Pach made collateral damage more effective as now (current str+max str)/2 is str for damage calculation.
Befor pach it was max str, so damaget units become weeker.

oh, I would consider trading paper for banking. I think most of AI knows paper right now, so this trade probably be beneficial.
We can use merkatinilism for profit, as the moment we attack Qin only Rusvelt will be left as foren trade partner and free specialists from mercantenilism will help as with out gp generation and sci points.

OK, thanks for the feedback. One thing, I am a bit reluctant to attack with just 2 galleys on hand. Our initial landing would have only 4 units, not enough to capture the city. Qin has 4 naval units close by (including 2 caravel), so our invasion forces could be cut off. I would rather hit them with 8 units on the turn we declare, and raze Guanghzou quickly. If we are lucky we might even catch some ships in port. Of course the downside is that it entails waiting another 6 turns for the rest of our galleys to arrive.

Why raise? It is perfect city to keep. Do not warry, drafting should provide enogth meat.
But yes, we need wait.

I guess I need another skip. I really have no time to play Thursdays and Fridays and for some reason that is when my turns always come up in this SG. I guess we must go around the roster once a week.

I will play my remaining 4 turns tonight. Looks like rddc will get to start the party with Qin. :hammer:

Sounds good. I'm only a so-so warmonger, but I'll give it my best shot. Set me up good, Bigfoot.

I'm out of town til Friday night, will try to get to it Saturday morning.

Is it possible to stage our forces somewhere on the other continent before we attack? I am concerned that our galleys will be vulnerable to even caravels on the movement over.

jeejeep, why don't you just swap with someone instead of skipping?

Thanks Kikinit, I wasn't paying attention to what I was typing. what I really wanted was a swap with the next person in line(rddc).

T6 (cont.):
- Go ahead and trade Lizzie Paper and 430G for Banking.
- Change civics to Nationhood-Emancipation-Merc.
- Draft muskets in Kumbi Saleh and Lahore.

<IBT: Trade Lizzie rice for sheep; Lahore workboat => cav.>

T7:
- Hire a few more scientists.
- Roos, knows Economics.

T8:

<IBT: Kumbi Saleh cav => cav; GP born in Delhi, save him for now (future GA?).>

T9:
- Move maces and cats next to Shandong for coming action.
- Guangzhou is up to 8 defenders now.

<IBT: Chem. => Steel; Timbuktu cav=>cav; Khan adopts Vasalage-Theocracy, looks like he is going to war, maybe vs. Isabella?>

T10:
- Our caravels finish circumnavigating the world. Just in time, the extra move will help with the upcoming invasion.
- Our 3rd and 4th galleys are a couple of turns away still. Our army has 12 cav, 2 muskets, 8 maces and 7 cats to attack with. Guangzhou has 9 defenders, so it will take at least 2 turns to capture it since we can only land 8 units the first turn.
- One galley is next to the city, remember to move it to the staging area prior to DOW.
- I held off drafting any more units since we cannot yet land all the forces we already have on hand.
- Probably we should just rush Guangzhou with cavalry and hope for the best. If we wait to reduce it with cats Qin will have time to move grenadiers in. He had at least 1 in the area before, so it probably is close by. I would land on the forest 2 south of the city, and also on the hill to the east. The galleys that drop off forces on the forest will have a remaining move so we can load up more forces the same turn that we declare.

Have fun!!!

=====================================================

Roster
- Jeejeep -- On deck
- rddc05 -- UP (swap with Jeejeep)
- TomPW
- Kikinit
- Mutineer
- Bigfoot -- Just played

Our galey now have 3 movements, so they can unload army on hill, protected by hill defence bonus and cut off reinforsments.

Big foot, I just reread your comments, how many did you draft?
You should have drafted may be 6-9 units.
If city N3 to small, remove specialists to let it grow.
Increase culture slider to 20% to draft more. Stabilise cities on smaller size (City N 4 was let to grow to big.)

Draft some from Dejiie, if has food excess. I am not sure if our new cities reach size 6 yet. If they did draft from them.
(one can draft only from cities size >6).

WE recruiting army to take over china and we need it NOW!
