JJ01-Moving up to Monarch

Well, I played six turns and continued to prep for the Khan invasion. Finished Refrigeration, got Radio and now 2 turns from Rocketry. We have a few bombers, one in Delhi that can reach Khan's easternmost city and 6 transports waiting to be loaded up. Khan is clearly about to invade us with an Arty/Cav combo, which is not scary unless we empty Delhi to go after him. He started a golden age on the second turn of this set.

I'm just not a good enough warmonger to take it from here, especially in modern warfare. We could begin the invasion this turn, so this would be a good place for everyone to have a look at the save and chime in with their invasion strategies and I will let Jeep take it from here and observe how an invasion should be done.

Well... I don't see modern warfare as being much different than any other time. (In this game anyway). Take along a medic and artillery and batter down the defenses.

We have loads of tanks and he only has infantry and cavalry so it's a bit of a mis-match. Keep you ships in packs and watch for him sending troops at the start. He seems to be building up a huge force in Tabriz. So large that the list doesn't show infantry on my screen as it's off the top.

Also take note that he's got a city on the East side of the american cities. Should be too hard to take some tanks over there to destroy that.

Once you get Tabriz, that will be a huge part of is army gone. Then you will be able to send all the bombers into tabriz and they can bomb down the defenses whiles your tanks move on the next target. Tanks are great as they can blitz but make sure the 2nd attack has good odds too. I find it too easy to leave the medics behind in modern warfare so your units take ages to heal.

Anyway thats my quick take on it.
 
WE need to atatck NOW.

I would advice to drop army in more then one stack to reduce collateral damage.
I would advice ships to bomb city defence and use bombers to damage units.
 
Sorry, things took a lot longer than i expected and I don't really have time to play this now. I would like to have a swap with anyone who is willing.

Any comments on how you went about the invasion are welcome also, for learning purposes.
 
well, I drop 6 staks of 4 in each, 2 tanks 2 infatry alone the coast line.
He whiped 2 of them on next turn, but the rest cut roads and fortify and I drop Arty next turn. Lost a bit more next turn, but after that was no problem.

Found strange why we were building Artilery, as it is useless now.
We had a lot of arty and some arty still in build.
Bombers and fleet provide all bobmbard need.

Currently we are lucking a bit of military. I was producing wanders.
We probably can win by taking 1-2 more Mongols cities or in a few turns UN will be build. we might have enogth population for back door domination.

Kill 2 invasion forces at sea, bombarding them first and after that is was easy, did not loose a single ship.

Currenly Mongols have no fleet, but still a lot of Arty left. Arty does hurt and we are lucking enogth tanks, but in 2-3 turns all wanders will be build and stream tanks production will be posible.
Advice to buy one aeroport in Mongol land for unlimited airlift. I allredy build enogth of aeroports around I think.

From the victory screen it seems that a few turns on 100% culture and we'll win by domination. I presume a couple of Mr. Khan's cities are still to come out of revolt too?

I'll look at the save tonight but it seems this one will be easily over in the next turnset. For that reason I would give the save to JJ to finish off. He started it.

I played, but we are going out to dinner and I don't have time to post. We won in 1939-my eighth turn. It took longer than I expected but it happened. I will post the full report tomorrow(lots of pics!)

As you can see on Monarch every start is winnable, even as poor as our have been.
I hope you learn importance of Farms, Greate people, civic use and changes and use food for whipping building and army.
Importance of micromanagment.

I am not supper military tactican, thought what I do useally works well. Generally my military strategy is just bring overwelming force and try to avoide big collateral damage.

Note how I promote fleet and tanks.
They were figting weeker opponents, in that case DRill is the best promotion if avalible. It not only increase chance to win, but decrease of damege unit sustained when winning. That let the same units kill more.

Thanks all for an 'interesting' SG that I did learn a lot from especially that at monarch and above to succeed I am going to need to have a longer term plan mapped out. What my SG's are showing me though is that at monarch level the plan doesn't quite need to be as firm. I have seen in my SP games that above this it absolutely has too.

Mutineer, thanks for all the advice. I would like to see you do an emporer or above game and write up the story in 'Civ4-Stories & Tales'. I think you have a very good understanding of how to beat this game and would like to see how it's done at a level like that.

1. Move troop + bomb Beshbalik.

2. Move troops, airstrike with bombers. airlifting :goodjob:

IBT: lose a tank. kill 1 arty 1 cav.

3. Move troops. Kill 4 infantry at BB with the losss of a tank.

IBT: Lose 2 tanks to arty. My combat luck is awful throughout these turns.

4. Kill last inf and a SAM. Lose a tank. WW is very high. we are at 63.17%
