JJ01-Moving up to Monarch

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to give this the time it needs until Wednesday or so, so I'll have to take a skip or switch with somebody. Sorry guys.

If Tom or rddc can't get it before this evening my time (about 8-9 hours from now), I will play next.

Not much to report. The war with FDR has been progressing ok. We don't have a decisive tech advantage over him but we have a decisive force size advantage over him so I took a number of cities and he countered quite well in some cases.

He has 4 cities left and I just took his capital on the last shot. I saw artillery and in taking the capital he finally had infantry. I had just enough forces to take the capital but once the cultural boundaries were taken away I could rush quite a few healed guys into the city so it should be safe.

War weariness is getting really bad. FDR's lands are huge and it takes ages to move through them. I am worried how bad WW will be before we can get to the top of his lands. We can still slide the culture slider a long way up as it's only about 20% or so IIRC.

Once we finish the war with him, we will need to build our infrastructure which has been on full war footing for a long time. Taking the WW away will be a massive boost for our economy.

Sorry for no pics but it's just moving troops and taking a few cities.

The log will show how much action there was.

Not mach to say.
Played 10 turns.
Finish Roosevelt.

WE had cultural slider at 60 last 2 turns.
Revolted to Pacifism/free speach.

Pacifism actially surprisally good civic for big empires.
WE are very near to win by domination.
We can take on Elisabet Or Khan.
Any would do. If you want to panish Khan for declaring on as go after him,
Elisabet easier a bit, because she is on small island and has no oil.

I start to fiering army back to our island, as they more near any of them.
We start to produce tanks.
Research set on Plastic, for 3 gorges.

Mutineer, Good job on finishing FDR. :goodjob:

At least that gets rid of our WW for a while. I managed to build a few jails through my turns and they should come in handy when we are in the next war.

In my opiniion, Three Gorges should go on our newly acquired lands as it's bigger and we haven't yet built any coal plants. On our homeland there are already some coal plants built. Although we don't have any factories either so three gorges won't do much until they ar all built anyway.

Pacifism is another civic that I am learning to love. It has that +1g per military unit that I don't understand as even when I have a big military and change to this civic my expenses don't seem to go change much so the +1g seems misleading.

I dislike Khan and would like to see him wiped out but if we want to finish this as quick as possible then maybe we should go for lizzy.

Nicely done guys, FDR didn't know what hit him!

I am at work right now, but I can play tonight (about 10 hours from now). If rddc or Tom want to grab it in the mean time feel free. My vote is to take out Lizzie since it will get us to domination the quickest.

It is not misleading, but for big population Empire amount of free units become big. +1 is not for free units.
Pacifism is no UPkeep civic, so, compare to higth upkeep orgonised religion or medium theocracy it actially often saves more money, then increase of military pay.
Yes, I put 3 gorges somewhere in China.

I can't do it tonight, so have at it. Should have some time to play starting tomorrow night, so maybe can jump in at that point.

After looking things over I reconsidered going after Lizzie, I think I prefer to attack Khan next. His island is closer, and he is more likely to launch a sneak attack than Lizzie is. Anyway I get the impression that some of our team would like a chance at revenge.

- I played 10 turns: continued improving Chinese and American cities. There were a number of jails in process, most of which are completed now. Starting building tanks for our pending courtesy call to Khan's island, staging them in Delhi. War weariness is gone, lots of WLTKD.

- Learned Plastics => Flight, 1 turn left on Refirgeration (gets extra movement for our water units). We will want some airports to enable airlifts and for extra trade routes. Three gorges dam is queued up in Beijing (built a hydro plant there first, due next turn -- gets the wonder 5 turns earlier).

- Lizzie has learned Radio and Rocketry. Khan has learned Rocketry, but I think Isabella is the only one with any oil. Anyway I didn't see any gunships over there.

- Made trade deals with Lizzie (hit musicals for incense) and Isabella (bananas for sugar).

On turn 6 Khan signed open borders so I sent a missionary to scout out his defenses:

- Otrar (Chinese city) = 2 inf.
- Tabriz = 8 cav., 1 atty.
- New Sarai = 3 inf.
- Ning-hsia = 4 inf.
- Beshbalik = 11 inf., 8 atty.
- Turfan = 4 inf., 6 atty., 1 SAM, 7 cav., 1 rifle.
- Karakorum = 6 inf., 3 atty., 1 cav., 3 rifle.
- Old Sarai = 1 SAM, 4 atty., 6 cav.

Our army (modern forces) has 16 tanks, 47 inf., 16 atty. There are 2 transports in place, with another one on the way and a 4th close to completion. Taking the first 2-3 cities should will be fairly easy, but Khan can put up a pretty good fight after that. I find that the AI is pretty dumb and leaves substantial forces in each city while you take his cities one at a time. Khan could do some real damage if he were to unleash all 22 atty. at once.

Hope I didn't overstep on choosing the next target. The team can still go after Lizzie if that is what the majority wants.

Over to rddc05.

Rats, I looked at my CDR and realized I have the wrong save! Sorry about that, I will post the save tonight.

The save.

R/L is kicking my butt at the moment, so go ahead and take it. I will see if I can pick it up tomorrow night.

:goodjob: bigfoot. You won't get any arguments from me about taking out either of the Khan's in any game. They have frustrated me enough in the past to always be targets in any game I play now.

I'm going to have to drop out of this guys - I'm sorry. I've really enjoyed it, and it looks like we're going to win. I'm a hell of a lot more confident on Monarch than I was - but I just don't have any time for Civ at the moment. Maybe I'll see you in another SG one day, when I can again give it the time it deserves.
