constantly demanding u cancel trade with others

constantly demanding free tech

constantly demanding you to switch to his religion

...

every game...

I get this from Gandhi, Asoka, Julius, Augustus, Lincoln, everyone. I really wish there was a way to set myself to "refuses to speak" with some of them.

When "Barbarian" (sid meier) got placed in charge of my strongest ally's overseas colonies, he asked me to stop trading with his worst enemy every.... single.... turn. (:

How can you place barbarian in charge of colonies?

And why are your eyes below your mouth?

I had started a thread on it awhile back. I think the new civs that are created by a civ when it creates a vassal are set, but with unrestricted leaders the leader randomly chosen can be "Barbarian," i.e. the same guy in the tutorial. Barbarian behaves very strangely, and this includes making demands every turn but never getting upset with you over turning him down.

And the smiley is just a habit I've had for about 12 years now, since the old days of IMing on AOL.

There is always one annoying leader in every game I play. It's always cancel deals with this person or that person. In the end they just declare war.

I hate Joao more than almost anyone. He has that condescending attitude - arrogant look and is always REXing like crazy, teching well usually. In my last game - the dumb azz was threatening me for tribute with his horse archers when I am one turn away from gunpowder - BRING IT ON BIG GUY...!!!!! :ar15:

Yeah Joao is a crazy rexer, and he must settle on every island possible. My last game with him, I was on a pangaea map but he was on the opposite side (landmass was sort of shaped like a horeshoe). He had made Elizabeth his vassal early on in the game and he was always making demands to stop trading with so and so. And he was good at teching too, or at least got them from elizabeth, who was a mad techer that game. Fortunately I didn't have to fight him to win and just took out my neighbors on my side of the continent.

Joao is annoying, for sure. His land grabbing abilities and city spam are hard to deal with, but I don't find him any more whiny than Izzy or Justinian. They're always pestering me for something...

Joao is also not much of a threat after the middle ages unless he gets a really good map, IMHO. He seems to turn on himself and implode, and become rather isolationist (at least in my games.) He's usually a middle power at best and rarely attacks anyone by this point.

A leader that is far more dangerous and annoying at the same time is Louis. He can keep up in tech, spam cities which border pop quickly, and he can easily overwhelm you. Added to that, he is one of the most vocal and demanding leaders in the game as far as I am concerned.

Someday, someone is going to mod this game so we can set "Refuse to talk" on any leader we choose. Whoever does it gets a big kiss from me. :)

Joao, Sitting Bull, Cathy...man these leaders are obnoxious. Sury is pretty bad too. Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme

I, however, prefer Joao to many other neighbors because 1) he's easy to rush and 2) he doesn't declare at pleased.

Spawn in a frozen wasteland with few resources (6 continents, high water level map, 18 civs, epic speed), discover at the end of the frozen wasteland is jiao's capital standing ready to box me in and crush me like the barbarian I am. Send out 2 warriors. One finds a hut and gets exp (set to strength + shock). One finds a hut and receives a free warrior. I rush jiao's hill city with 3 warriors.

The Portuguese Civilization has been destroyed (3225bc). Ah.. makes my heart smile.

I just want to remove his fingernail....

He's been a big pain with me as well, in maybe 4 or 5 games. Generally good at teching, always sending spies over to mess me up, declares war on me when he's not even my neighbor, but it does end up weakening me, and the worst part - everyone else seems to love him.

I feel you man, but apparently for different reasons.

You do know that's Sid Meier, the guy who's name is pasted on the game box, right?

Seconding the option for "refuses to talk". I'd also like an "insult" or "goad" option for those leaders who are obviously furious, too scared to attack you, yet constantly demand things. "It ain't happening" just doesn't give me enough pleasure. I want a witty Pythonesque insult that gives an instant -2 "We have never been so insulted!"

I HATE Jo The Pathetic Portugese Ponce; he's just so damn annoying. I once had a game as Hannibal where I was surrounded by Rags and Napolean. No biggie; I go straight military and take them out with Curris and Cannons. In the middle of this Carthaginian tidal wave drowning the top two civs in the game, Jo starts demanding techs from a workboat off my coast. Are you kidding me? And he kept bugging me! As soon as those two meatheads were gone, I built the biggest navy I'd ever built before and went straight to Lisobon. Hasta la vista, Loser.

:lol::lol: Couldn't agree more! Joao is a pain but I can deal with him most cases. Sury! :crazyeye:   That little rat drives me nuts! He's the most high maintenance little beggar ever. I'm to the point where I simply destroy him out of principle.

And I'd have to agree with Lemon Merchant about the French. Every game I get a Frenchman he hates me and it always, always ends in war.

De Gaulle is a reasonable person, and his unitprob is very low. Nappy and Louis are both backstabbers, and Nap is really dangerous - tied for #1 in the game for units trained (and double de gaulle). Louis is more so just annoying typically, since he is ridiculously strong at culture pressure. Annoying IND wonder spam, annoying UB, annoying everything cultural. At least he doesn't make as many units as shaka though :(.

Actually, for the first time ever, I managed to get along with Nappy in my current game; to the point where I made a PA with him. His power graph was off the charts, but he was tech backwards. Needless to say, soon after the alliance I gifted him a large chunk of gold, and he just took over.
