Joshua Goring walked over to the building to register for the Foreign Legion. Though German by birth, he was disillusioned by his native land. He felt that it was boring and uninspiring. He felt that he was being smothered under its traditions and culture.

This was the perfect opportunity. He already speaks French so that is not a problem. The training, however, was not. He was paired up with a German, who could not speak French. They went through rough exercise in the desert. They were long marches that could bring anyone to their breaking point. They are highly trained marksman and can outshoot most of the soldiers in the French army. The legionaries all eventually learn to speak French and through training they form a unique identity. This espirit de corps is the foundation of their entire existence.

A brief History of the French Foreign legion
The Legion was an interesting prospect for a man like Joshua Goring. The Legion was already legendary. Fighting in the 1st Carlist war, they performed with great distinction. In the Sino French War of 1884, they fought with immense bravery and fortitude. They lead the attack on the Western Gate of Son Tay. This led to a breach in the Chinese defenses and a decisive victory. On the city of Tuyen Quang they led the Heroic defense. They lasted for 3 months from the ferocious Chinese attempts to seize the city. The legionaries stood out because of their impressive marksmanship spirit. In January of 1885 the Chinese ended the undeclared war and decided to sign the Treaty of Tientsin.
