i think this subject came out before. anyway, are there any defensive bonuses for fighting inside jungles and forests? i got thinking about it after seeing 'RAN' by Akira Kurusawa where a horde of cavalry and infantry were repulsed by just a couple of 'gunners'(riflemen). they were 'fortified on the edge of the forest.

those Japanese rifles, however, have extremely long range. directors mistake probly. longer range than US civil war infantrymen rifles. but then again i always thought those US CWar rifles had longer effective range than how they used them back then. They should have fired long before they did. baka!

yes there is a defence bonus, but it isn't huge. I don't know what you're talking about with range tho.

also all units can only move 1 space a turn which means if you are losing you can retreat

I saw Akira Kurosawa's 'Ran' and thought it was an excellent movie. Kinda got me pumpled for playing Shogun Total War........

The defensive bonus is +25%.

A good trick in forrest/jungle warfare is to fortify your units, if possibly behind rivers, watch the AI's units die, and then advance a bit before taking up a new defensive position to meet the next wave.

Reality check:

Cavalry would ALWAYS fail when attacking riflemen whose weapons could reach 600 yards, but they usually held fire until under 400. That's four times the range of a Napoleonic musket, and with a more reliable firing mechanism - percussion caps instead of flintlocks.
