Bug? I just created Mercs(its my fav strat to go straight for mercs and have them as an ally). I opted to NOT play(just have as ally) But they didn't take over the city i made it in...Basium is there, walking around killing stuff, but i still have my city, and they just have one settler?

(I don't know if this is related, but i also sometimes go straight got Hyborem strat...and a couple times that i did that, i voted to NOT play as him, and as soon as i clicked it...it said Hyb has been eliminated or w/e?)

Any ideas on either? Should i go to a previous save and try again...creating the merc gate?

The city conversion is based on a spell Basium casts when he is created. He can choose not to, so the city may not always turn to his control.

You could try reloading, see if that helps.

what is the spell? can he use it on any city with order in it, or can he only use it once?

Basium has a unit specific spell that he can cast in any city containing the Mercurian Gate and belonging to another civ. Basium has no connection to The Order whatsoever.

(In my version the spell can instead be cast in any city belonging to a permanent ally.)

doesn't he declare war on all AV when he's summoned? It seems like he should at least be tied to order/emperyan if not just order. It bugs me when he converts to FoL or RoK.

I remade like 6times, he apparently doesn't want my city? =) I COULD just give it to him i guess?

Yes he does mega, and he also declares war on any civ that converts to AV during the game.

Yeah - I thought Mercenaries at first too.

Sounds odd, but I had it happen once a long time ago, that he didn't seem to bother casting "Convert City." I therefore kept the city and gifted him some useless frontier town, which Basium managed to make something out of. I suppose I was always at risk of him coming back and just randomly deciding to take over that city, but that never happened. Even if it did, you could just view the "Gate" city as having lived on borrowed time and contributed to your empire for, well, however many turns it might've been productive for you still.

The thing with Hyborem happened to me once, it turned out to be because the tile he spawned on got taken over by a border expansion before it was his turn.
