I play on regent and dont have any problems. Just continue connecting citys with roads, put roads in optimal places, get luxurys, trade, and of course my favorite WAR!!! if you take over other civs it gives you more power and makes the game more fun and interesting... for me at least.
If you are behind by alot, attack a weaker civ. Destroy their army and take half of their land, then ask for peace and make them give you all of their techs. That's one way to get ahead.

Good suggestion. I usually grab almost all ancient and medieval techs that way
4. Take your time. Never rush a turn. This is true in Civ 3 and in Chess. You move too fast, you make a blunder. (Like using a leader to rush a harbor, tR1cKy ).
At emporer it's alot harder, I have to be scientific to keep up. On Warlord, just increase sci, and don't build that many warriors, more cities. Also try Republic, it's alot better for researsh.
