Hey, Everyone...

I read, in an earlier thread (much earlier; couple of years ago as I believe) that one gambit to try would be to enable Mass Regicide in the game rules, and then convert the 5 kings into scouts. I'll assume, for the time being, that the poster knew what he was talking about. I asked that poster how this is/was done, but haven't received any reply, so I'll bring it up now.

Does anyone, in the Wide World of Civ, know how this can be done? Is it possible? :king:

P.S.: How do I change the "chieftain" in my avatar?

The avatar has to do with the number of post. At some point you can move up, I do not recall the levels, but the info is on the board.

You do not change the King units to scouts, you just move them as if they were a scout.

Ahhhhh.... so you simply put 'em on Auto-Explore??? Do they move the same as scouts?

Don't auto-anything. Move them yourself to explore the map.

Yes, just be careful. I lost a Regicide game once when barbarian horsemen killed off my king while he was exploring. That won't be as much of a problem with multiple kings, though.

Instead of building, warriors for an example, early in the game and exploring land with them, You use king units as "scouts" to explore lands, pop goody huts and make contacts. After you have done exploring (know your continent) you move your king units back to your cities.

Ai does not attack king units, as they are stronger than most units in AA age.

I don't play "regicide" ever, so this is what I have understood by reading posts made by other people.

I know it's a movement of 2 for king units... I've used them plenty of times... I'm sure on this.

Ok, I guess all that answers my original question.... :goodjob:

But here's the kicker: can kings pillage???

I know the gambit with explorers works reasonably well... just have to be nimble with explorers... :D

Or ya lose 'em... they get captured...

and explorers don't get captured, they get put to the firing squad.

Hide them behind an army or massive stack. You'll go through a lot fewer that way.

Explorer'er units can be captured if civilization has "expansionistic" treat.

With respect to King Conversion... no they can't be converted to scouts, HOWEVER... (and this is based on my actually using them)

They do move 2/turn (except in forests, jungles, hills, and mtns), for the most part are invulnerable to the barbs (I've lost a couple, but kept many more than I lost), AND (it seems) tend to tilt the goody-hut pops towards free techs. Not always, but more often than not... again, so it seems. I've just started a new Regent level game (saved it at 10AD) and am nearly to the middle ages (I'm pretty sure only one or two techs to go to get there)...

I haven't tried to pillage with any of them yet, but that may only be a matter of time... I know that if you park one inside another civs border, the other civ warns you to remove your troops. With the explorer this does not happen (unless you're at war with that civ anyway)... :king::king::king::king::king::king:
