King of the hill - open challange for all playlevels

I will give it a try, after seen all your spoilers.

Another interestib AW game can be this one.
It's an OCC, with a great choke point, and editable with WB (which i did massively after the Oracle).

I made it to the end. 1936 Stalin landed his ship. The chokepoint held the entire time, although my land was getting TEARED UP by jet fighters. I was impressed to see Duckweed's Elite infantry. It almost makes me want to play this scenario again and try that tactic. Almost. On the other hand, I never want to see it again.

^Didn't even get to build the Apollo Program... that's a shame. :cry: (I think you need Rocketry to build the Apollo Program...)
 
Well I am having a great game... Found several new tweeks to the strategy after seeing what everyone else did. It is a large advantage.

I am king of the seas, king of the hill, king of tech, 2nd in score it is 1800.
My "war production city" can produce one of anything with 20EXP:D
I will post my actual game info when I am done, but a few tips for those still playing.

Attacking Stalin's landmass
I took out two cities, one on the coast and one inland in the 1600's. Even with that success, if I had translated they unit supply cost and units that eventually died, I would have been far better off building a bigger navy or not building the units.

How to massively weaken Stalin
If I had realized how well this was going to work, I would have had an invasion force read to take Moscow! He had a ton of Frigates and Galleons ready to depart but blocked by my Navy (I had covered the two exit spots for Moscow). I decided to let them out and then kill them when the depart.

What I did not count on was the AI boarding almost everyone waiting at the docks! Moscow had less than a 10-12 units defending!:blush:

After I killed his Navy I sealed it back up and rinsed and repeated twice more at a few of his cities. In the end I crippled Stalin’s army and navy, no cheap upgrades for you.

From then on, I will go for full SE since there's no other wonder I need in this map. I got my favorite wonder CR, this time is not for my own usage, but to prevent Stalin from getting it. Most of my spies' missions are to change Stalin's civics and religion. Although those missions do not cause anarchy at the moment, changing back will do. Stalin love my religion. :lol:

1860AD Force. Not impressive, due to my capital and IW city are busy in grabbing wonders. However, it is almost the time for conquering the southern part of our land when I will have the air control for long time. Ragnar does not have Oil and GK is backward.

Guys need a bit of deity help, having huge unhappiness issues.

It is 1828. I have three founded religions, etc...

War Wearniess is 5+ in my cities about to build the National Wonder.

Emancipation penalty is between 5+ in my cities going up everyturn (All but me have it).

I am running Rep/Caste/Bur, with an "Iron Economy" Workshop/Farm Economy, except for my Capital which is CE. Running 20% Culture, Just got access to EMP/Police State

What civics must I run?

Rep is + 3 Happiness and +3 for my ONE specialist farm
Police state drops my War Weariness to +1 (for now) before National Wonder (net +1 Happiness)

Nationalism would boost my happiness for a huge hit to my capital.

Emancipation solves my problem at a huge hit in production of 6-10 before modifiers a town.

On Deity can I actually play without using Emancipation?


Any suggestions?
 
If you have enough EP, use spies to get AIs to switch out of Emancipation. Rep/Merc really helps your Research this game, prob want to stay in this combo for a while. Jails+Mt. Rushmore helps. 3 religions allows multiple temples and cathedrals in top cities. Also if possible, good thing is to raze the Russian city with SOZ wonder.
 
Duckweed - How are you surviving with 6 total Naval units!

I totally abort the ocean control since my tech path chosen before 1500AD cause me no hope for navy. So I chose to defend in land, the answer is Seige units :ar15: trap cities

If i ever want a similar challenge to this thread, what settings are in this scenario? Just Agg AI/Always War/Raging Barbarians? Because I have never seen an AI create so many water units that early to perform an intercontinental war.

My civ playing time is very limited, so I stopped since the last post.

With the contribution of so many good players, i think we have figured out the "optimal" strategies/sequences to beat this scenario and gained some valuable knowledge.

my first effort didn't end too well, without the gw and without the jungle hill it was just too difficult for me, optimistically i tried to take some zulu cities near the choke, then Stalin came.I could have gone complete defence earlier but that would never have won me the game. I was ready for the more spoilerish aspects of the game now ;). Took Halt's save with the 3 religions, gw, oracle and ulundi sacked :goodjob::goodjob:. That made an enormous difference, i was first to destroyers now somewhere around 1550, with the jungle hill your defending troubles are just more or less over so you can concentrate on developing the land to the max. Played quick and a bit sloppy missing the circum bonus again for instance. Game might be winnable with the early destroyers now but the tediousness of the whole thing is getting to me so i call it a day, as ABigCivFan notes we more or less know what best strats are now. I'm still in awe of mzprox game who iirc had gw for some lucrative stealing but didn't have the jungle hill. The land is defendable with blockcity but you get slowed severely and you just miss some very good land if you defend there.
 
This was a good one back in the day. Anyone still have the original start file from the OP?
