King of the World #16: Julius Caesar

I would take two or three more cities from Cathy, make her a buffer vassal, and then attack Egypt where the rich cities are near at hand.

Excellent write-up! It's tons of fun to read. :goodjob:

My two cents: Egypt is a better short-term target than Arabia. The land is better; it shores up your southern flank; and Hatshepsut is neither protective nor blessed with cities in the hills. Since your legions are nearing the end of their useful life, I think they'd have better luck now against Hattie (does she have any metal?) than against Saladin's performance-enhanced longbows. Also, Saladin's best land would be immediately swamped with Persian culture, while you would own the Nile and Cyrenaica free and clear.

Vassal Cathy now. Seize the good land in Africa and vassal Hattie. And then march on Saladin with guns and cannon. Do religious differences make it possible to stir up trouble between Cyrus and Saladin in the meantime?

Just let her keep the junk city and see if she'll give you something else (if she has anything left to give). Vassal her and use her as a buffer from eastern annoyances. Then go kill Sal and Hattie.

1) Great segment!

2) Cap Cathy now and take Orenberg in the deal. You will have to give back one or two cities to make her a useful, happy vassal. Orenberg may as well be one of them (and Yekaterinberg if necissary).

3) Rolo makes a good case for Hatty->Sal->Cyrus and co. Starting with Cy would be crazy- Mansa is already a vassal so automatically a 2-front war (although MM is not much of a warrior).

4) Send a caravel to the old world. Time to see what's happening over there!

Take just enough cities from Cathrine to allow the good cities you've already taken to be able to grow. Then get a couple of bottles of vodka and get the party statred. Just make sure you make her promise to keep those legs and armpits clean.(Dump Izzy) After that hit Hatty. She has a few very good cities and it'll give you the chance to build cannons and rifles to go for Sal and Cy.

Nice job, Neal. :goodjob: I'd vassal Cath soon, as you really have all of good cities except Rostov, which is a really nice state property production spot with all of that grassland.

Once rifles/cav are in hand, I'd beeline communism (bulb PP and sci meth, so save any GSs) - it's by far the best civic to be running on this map. Before then, I'd go for a lightning knight/spy takedown of Egypt (she has neither metals nor engineering). Probably taking Thebes and Heliopolis will be enough for Hatty to cave. I'd even give her back both of those cities - she will be a great tech buddy the rest of the game (much better than Mansa, who will trade away everything you give him to anybody who asks) and will quickly get to friendly (not that you care  ).

Honestly, it's already game over. Are those really deity AIs without lit in 325AD? I wanna see some ID!

Sadly, shortly thereafter, Father Weis was exiled in disgrace. In his stead, the cathedral is now ruled by Father Kelly, who promises victory at any cost. Many remain unconvinced.

:lol::lol::lol: That was Hilarious. :crazyeye:

No clemency for Catherine. (Don't anger Isabella! She's treacherous.;) ) I don't find her useful as a vassal at all.

Haha yeah, that Father Weis Father Kelly thing went over my head for awhile, but I finally go it. Nice touch!

Us europeans are utterly confused :-)

It has to do with us American's obsession over the game of American Football. Father Weis is the former head coach of the Notre Dame college football team, while Father Kelly in the new coach of the up and coming 2010 season.

Hey, all, just a head's up. I'm going to try to get the next round up tomorrow, because after that it's off to the frigid northeast for the Christmas holiday. I won't be back until the 27th or 28th from that. So keep the faith, KotW fans! The game isn't over yet!

Ah yes, nothing like a white Christmas, we also finally got that here in southern Finland. Have fun out there. :)

Now as for the game, I don't think you can lose this one even if you tried(short of disbanding every unit and declaring on everyone) so go for whatever you feel would make for the best writeup.

Frigid Northeast indeed. We're expecting a possible storm here on Saturday so I hope your travels are safe.

Pretty amazed at the tech screen with this game given the Deity level. None of your contacts has Paper even - and I doubt the New World is at that level either though you never know. Perhaps with a bulb or two you can get something unique after Liberalism. Steel is great, but you might be able to push the envelope even further.

It'd be nice to be able to get to Econ first for the Merchant and Physics first for the Engineer, but I would not worry overly much with corps in this game since I would think State Property would be the way to go in terms of civics. Agree that Communism should be a good priority in your teching.

Other than that, I'll add my voice to the choir advocating Cathy's immediate capitulation. You will get a view of all her cities, correct? That will at least help to see what's out there. And I do like the idea of taking an offered city in order to be able to gift it back for diplo points. You'll be able to use all of your own tiles, and I don't see where her borders would be so onerous whereby any of the nearby cities would go into revolt. Let her creative borders annoy Cyrus, Qin, and Khan. Also, don't forget to nab whatever she might have to offer as far as health and happy.

Then, on to the final woman in the map with Hatty. Should be great fun. As usual.

Uh, guys?.... Egypt managed to expand far enough into central and south Africa to get metals... Which is a bad thing. BUT.... Hattie is willing to become a voluntary vassal! Should we take her up on it?

I dunno, depends what you did about the Spanish bride. If you exiled and divorced Isabella in favor of the more entertaining Russian Dame like I suggested, then I think Caesar deserves 2 vassaled women in his life. If Julie (note name in title) kept his Buddhist Bride, then he cannot break that old ball and chain and must refuse vassaling Hatty.

How's that for expert strategic advice!

I would prefer you capturing Thebes and Memphis (Heliopolis and Alexandria too, if they're good enough) as they are ALWAYS great cities. Then vassal (and wed) her and let her develop the weak African continent.

Absolutely. She'll be a great techer for you, and capturing Thebes/Heliopolis would mean that you'd have to tie up half you army there to keep it out of revolt, and you'd be battling Saladin's cultural pressure. IMO, it's a no-brainer.

Voluntary vassals can decide to not be vassals anymore ;) But anyway having her as vassal would save you some time and time is a thing that you never have enough especially on Deity :D
