I really need to start playing every game like I was a wolf because those are the games where no one suspects me. When I am town and just do whatever, it always draws suspicion. Then I get lynched and flip town.

But nevertheless the truth. I've won the past two mafia games I had, and been lynched (over my total mafia career) as town for being "scummy" countless times.

I need to take a new approach to being town besides being carefree at the start and defensive later. I get too defense.

I totally agree. quoted it earlier. Would hung TS just on it, but unfortunatly for him there is more on his case.

The truth is that I didn't suspect you for a second that one game I subbed in. But I also remember you not being this awkward as town (and that's all meta solving).
Here, in this very game I like that you're asking questions, but it might be that you're hinding behind them. I think d2 should be enough for you to cash back on reactions if you're town.
