Well, let's declare it a loss, but not a total loss. Since this is a learning game after all, let's see what went wrong.
My thoughts:
1. (and you can totally blame me for this) Optics beeline sucks if behind against a neighbor. It may have been better to just head for military superiority (Construction) and/or economic stability (Currency, CoL, Civil Service) before meeting new civs to trade with.
2. We expanded quite fast. While that is not a bad thing, we did not try to recover the economy with tech.
3. We may have needed to war even earlier, before Roosevelt could build up his culture and walls.
4. It's really a tough map. We got shafted by the RNG and got stranded in a continent with one opponent. IMO that is worse than having the continent all to ourselves (in which we can just ignore military and focus on economic stability and the Optics beeline).
@Sealot:
Well, map is tough.

I'm not surprised you had a tough time as we did.
I wonder if some expert can achieve a better result...
@Kikinit:
Well interest may be dying... but that's probably because we're not winning.
Wanna go at this again? This time, let's specialize better.

(also pray for a better map)
