Hi,

I'm new on cfc, but i've been lurking around here in the sg forums and wanted to start my own. i wanted to play a variant that seems to be not very widely played, the variant that you can never leave the ancient ages. i may of missed some but i just wanted to play on one.

so here are the specs:
civ: Rome
geo: 80% conts, random age-climate-temp? (needs confirmation)
diff: monarch? (needs confirmation)
size: standard

i'm open to any changes requested by the players. :)

Roster:
me
Sasquatch
Mumpulus
TheRat
OPEN
(OPEN, just in case)

once, we decide on the specs, i'll roll a start. :D

lurker's comment: You need to choose a VC. Culture is difficult without MA buildings and wonders, and Conquest is virtually impossible on Continents without Middle Ages. I may join, depends on how busy I am

Well, i was thinking a conquest being the only viable option and some other things...

we really need the lighthouse (to cross thar oceans)

we cant get the great library

we have to leave one AA tech unresearched (prolly philo)

no wonders other than lighthouse

small wonders allowed

once on the other continent(s) we build can only build our own cities, aka raze everything!

once we declare no peace

Non Oscillating War?
======
There is an element of luck here, if we get a map with two continents a million spaces apart we cant do it without major things to occur

Sounds interesting to me. I'd like to join on this one. Don't think I've read an SG with this type of variant before. The difficulty level for this attempt would be right in my range, just about to jump to DG myself :scared: . Could even go Emporer if a higher level player or 2 were interested.

and btw, I think I'm supposed to do this :)
welcome to the boards! :band:

Welcome Sasquatch! :)

I think emp is too high of a level, the ai might be zinging through the MA and we are just stuck with legions...

I can see Legions ruling the world if you play hard and fast. I would recommend making it Archipelago to slow the tech pace down. Shutting science completely off at the end of the AA would be better, rather than not researching philo. 0% science slider and no scientists mean no science. I would recommend just going to war as opportunity strikes rather than have any rules about it. You'll obviously want to be a monarchy to not have massive WW. Sounds fun, if I weren't in so many other SG's, I'd join.

comments: I think it would be easier to do be done on pangaea. What are you going to do if you miss the Great Lighthouse? Game over?

Pangaea makes everyone reachable, true, but the tech pace is insanely fast. On a Pangaea, build lots of warriors, hook up Iron, upgrade to Legions and raze raze raze. You might just beat them before they get too strong. You might not. If you have to fight Knights or Cavalry, you will lose.

I really shouldn't, but I would like to join this one. Sounds like a nice diversion from the higher difficulty SGs I've been playing.

Especially if we stick to monarch, I'm sure we can get the Lighthouse, so continents should be doable. Pangaea is fine with me too though. Emperor would be doable as well, but maybe we shouldn't overdo it. :)

Well, for pangea, lk100 (pretty old eh?) was similar to this but it was regent (iirc?) and on pangea and with persia. depending on how far everybody is, this could be just a horde of legions walking around, not really a challenge.

Archi would make this a sail and conquer islands, i think since we might not have anyone on out island, we'll just be ok from the start. not really a challenge either. unless the ai conteact eachother and start trading well...

So i think that continents is a good mix of both. the initial conquering with spear vs legions, and then pikes (muskets sound scary) vs legions on the other

lurker's comment: When I read this description, I thought I remembered hearing about an SG in which the object was to conquer the world using Roman Legions. With a little digging, I was able to come up with what may be some interesting reading for the team members here:

grs1 - the roman legions

grs2 - the roman legions - the rematch

Good luck!

Yeah, those are some good games. The only diff. is that we cant go past the AAs.

Another a another point: no pults or artillery, just piles on piles of legions! :groucho:

by the way, this sounds interesting...can sign me up also

Welcome aboard TheRat! I hope somebody of your experience can help us! :)

So, do we agree on the following...

Size: Standard
Land: Continents (70% water)
Temp/Age/Climate: Random
Civ: Rome
VC: Conquest (if possible, open to Domination)
Difficulty: Monarch
Barbs: rando
Other: No SGLs

Yeah, me too. Don't really know why i put 80 down, out of habit perhaps... :crazyeye:

I recommend 70%, but 60 is doable, just means larger landmasses, more cities to conquer. As long as the crossing is 5 tiles or less, you'll be fine with Galleys, as you can do 3 tiles without the GLight and 4 with. You send empties across, then transfer troops in the middle of the crossing. Some empties will sink, but as long as full boats are never parked on the ocean or sea, they won't sink. You know, I am in 4 SG's, but this sounds interesting and fun. I will join, if you'll have me. I can be skipped if I'm up in too many at once.
