Then I believe you force our hand, and you now have war with Egypt as well.

Many things afoot in our chaotic world. We have heard the Russians have abused the new, robotic leader of Japan and skilfully removed most of his empire from beneath his feet, in one fell swoop. So much for our buffer. We ask that Catherine consider the happiness of her citizens, and our friendly future relations, and offer us the town of Satsuma, at some modest price. We will be taking those unhappy citizens off your hands and securing our mutual future.

Askia hopes that Darius will understand soon that it was a bad decision to make your good neighbour your enemy only to conquer this crappy city state of Edinburgh :)

It's our first step :) Well thanks for that last RA we are now equal at 42%.

Auto-DoW on Onan? Kind of weird but i don't see how you can help him for now. You have to deal with Russians first. I have sent you a peace deal of course. Accept it if you want.

@Songhai & Persia: Did Songhai sponsor the finished RA with Persia? That's why Catherine always believe in cash and military upgrade.

@Egypt: The border Japanese city has libary, university and workshop, so Catherine can't decide a fair price that will benefit Russia in this trade. Unhappiness is manageable at this level anyway.

@Aztec: Catherine had no idea where to send ambassadors to Aztec empire as they have not yet learnt how to swim. It is more efficient for Aztec scout to visit the former Japanese territory.

They had a defensive pact.

@ Russian, we can see your, formerly japanese borders but I dont have any troops close atm. Go southeast to the sea and you might find a trireme scout.

No, Songhai did not sponsor the finished RA with Persia. We are not so foolish

Hey guys!
I am aware of some interesting feature which can be used in our game:
If the name of conquered city state is changed then the game mechanics will not allow this CS to be liberated. That is the former CS will be regarded as a civ built city within the game mechanics.

If I rename the city state of Edinburgh so persians will not be able to liberate it. Will it be considered as cheating or not? :)

I would say yes. It is a feature in the game after all and if you break the feature it feels to me like you are not playing the game as intended.

Good to know that, but please do not rename CS. And hope the Songhai put up a good fight!

Agreed.

Then I will not rename Edinburgh or any of conquered city states.

It seems that persians discovered navigation the last turn! They already have 2 frigates visible to songhai forces. Darius made up his mind to make Persia a naval powerhouse? :nope:

I'm not doing things half way ;)

This could get really violent end game. 4 big civs, soon to be 3. Persia or Songhai, the winner will be a force to recon with.
We seem to be controlled by the whim of our neighbours, Onan. Atleast I have the terrain to keep me a little safer. You are in the thick of it. I do not envy you.

I've been surviving at the whim of my neighbours this whole game.

Do you reckon your terrain will keep you safe from frigates?

Catherine put her bet on Persian win, not that she does not trust the ability of the Songhai leader, the fringe starting location always provides strategic advantages.

The question is: how would you react to the rising of a superpower?
1. Militarily help resist the superpower?
2. Tech up and build up quickly to surpass the super power?
3. Become a superpower through conquering by yourself?

No, not as long as all my cities are built along the coast. I would however have the advantage if I could force attackers to use ground units. Only way I can manage that is if I build a strong naval force, and fast. Not going to happen.

Like I've said a long time ago in this thread, this was one of my first mp game ever started and there are alot of mistakes that I can no longer fix. I am just going to play this one as a supporter and a instigator. If I can get someone to wipe out Onan before I die, I see that as a win. :p

Why not? Triremes are super cheap. Save some cash and get some irons (from Catherine).

These frigates served as floating cannons. Even cannons can't fight them at equal footing until artillery.

I have iron up the wazoo. What I dont have is a steady income, or the tech. I might get frigates, but can I get enough? And is it fast enough? Those things seems unlikely to me. I told you, mistakes have been made. Tech paths is one of them.

China is busy for the next few years pacifying the "obstinate guerilla people at the edges of world affairs." We will deal harshly with invaders but are otherwise not able at this time to commit ground troops to anything but the liberation of Antium from Caligula the mad.

Foffaren has a nice fringe start, just not enough cities. :goodjob:

Interesting questions. You've already seen some of my answers.

1. We tried to prevent Russia becoming a superpower on our doorstep by assisting the Japanese with some cash and a couple units, to no avail. And because Oda gave up as quick as he did, we lost the chance to take Satsuma from Japan, rather than provoke direct conflict with Russia.

2. All we've done this game is tech as much as possible, because of our resource poverty, it seemed the only way to survive. If someone had invaded us hard, early, Egypt would've crumbled. As it is, be warned, Catherine, our cannon will come online well before you can reach our borders.

3. Hmn, which minor civ is there left to kill? It needs to be someone close to me.... And it would be nice if they were someone who's asking for it. But given the pressures of the wider world, an Egyptian-Aztec war seems suicidal at this point.

@Songhai and Persia: we have honoured our defensive pact by laying to rest the Persian pike who was stuck in our lands. Since the rest of the conflict is on the other side of the planet, we might as well have peace...however knowing Tab, he's unlikely to accept this now that I've blooded him, however lightly.

@Persia and Russia: do not believe the Chinese, they want you to think they are committed elsewhere, but what better opportunity for one superpower to rise preeminent than when the other two have started or may be about to start their own wars of conquest? Come for us if you will, Catherine, but do not expect it to be easy, and do NOT expect us to give up until we see the defeat screen. :ar15:
