I've always thought that i knew my world history rather ok, atleast the basics an then some more. Nevertheless im seing lots of things in Civ IV that i have no knowledge of. Im talking about Leaders, Cities, Wonders, Units and such. Yes i recognise most of it all but still there are things i have never heard about. Its not a big deal im just a bit suprised. But this gives me the opertunity to learn more and more about the course of history as my game develops, atleast how its developing in my game that is;) Yes it was indeed the Romans that won the space race!

don't forget that there's a history section of the civilopedia for things you don't know much about

Not every entry in the Civilopedia has a history section, though.

What city is the Space Elevator in? When was the Third Gorgeous Damn finished? All this new stuff since I graduated!

A third gorgeous dam?? I haven't even seen the first and second! Are they sisters? Which one is the hottest? I only ask cause I know a couple of beavers who need a good home, and I'm sure that a gorgeous dam would be much more appealing than an ugly one.:)

One of the nice things about Civ is that it can teach you a lot about history, but you don't have to pay attention to the lessons if you're not interested.

They are either concepts or under construction. The Three Gorges Dam is in or is to be built in China I do believe. The Space Elevator is a concept that is approaching reality based on advances in composites and molecular sciences.

So while the concepts in Civ may all not be historical, they do provide some good food for thought.

If completed, the $24 billion Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze will be the largest hydroelectric dam in the world. It would span nearly a mile across and tower 575 feet above the world’s third longest river. Its reservoir would stretch over 350 miles upstream and force the displacement of close to 1.9 million people. Construction began in 1994 and is scheduled for completion by 2009.

The project is currently facing massive corruption problems, spiraling costs, technological problems and resettlement difficulties. One million people have been displaced by the dam as of early 2005; many are living under poor conditions with no recourse to address outstanding problems with compensation or resettlement.

Said one peasant from Kai county, "We have been to the county government many times demanding officials to solve our problems, but they said this was almost impossible. They have threatened us with arrest if we appeal for help from higher government offices."

Despite protests by Chinese citizens and media scrutiny of the project’s impacts, private banks and export credit agencies have provided considerable financial support for the Three Gorges Dam.

You do learn alot from this game, and other games like Age of empires and other history games, you get lots of little history facts. I love history and the main reason for that where games like these. that made history fun!!!!

Are you guys kidding?
Really..... a good education will give you a world overview, not an arrogant country specific view. And what does school have to do with it? Since when do you stop learning about the world at 18....

i stopped at about 25, Since then i get all my information from the Jerry Springer show. It is much more relevant than the history of the Kookanos river basin.
