Just out of curiosity, are there many players here who follow the ladder system ?

It's just that looking at Case's ladder I don't see any familiar nicks from Civfanatics or Poly. :hmm:

Well I'm not a member of one, but as far as I know it's a community of mp players of C3C who play matches against each other and are ranked accordingly.

There are some impressive statistics. Some guys have won over 98% of the time aginst other humans in more than 500 mp challenge games one-to-one.

I'll post the link:

I was just wondering If there was anyone around who had joined them and to tell us their impressions on it.

It's been a few years, but I used to play a few Warcraft II ladder games at Case's ladder. IIRC, the ladder is a ranking of players; when you sign up you're at the bottom. You challenge higher-ranked players, and if you beat them you gain rank; I forget if you swap places (don't think so), jump halfway up the ladder between you and them or go one spot above them in the rank. If you stop playing for a while you quickly slide in rank as people challenge others and get placed ahead of you.

Some problems back then were people not honestly reporting wins/losses, dropping connection ("oops") instead of taking the loss, etc.. Also since everyone wanted to play a higher rank to climb the ladder it was hard to get some players to play a lower ranked player. It's been a few years since I looked, so maybe they've fixed this stuff by now.

people here are too busy with SGOTM or GOTM or COTM to participate those ladder games i guess. i used to starcraft game a lot. :)

I think the warcraft battle.net ladder type is much easier to be part of, just because the games take way less long. I enjoyed my years of warcraft ladder for that: you want to play, you do, and you stop when you want to. Civ takes too long for that imo, I'd get bored way way way too fast.

NO! Don't join Cases Ladder. The community there is full of a bunch of jerks and a-holes.

I was expecting something like that :D
Ok, all i know about it is how it has been described in this thread, and judging from how it has been described in this thread, after a careful analysis, i've come to the conclusion that the ladder system is, well, er... crap.

No kidding. It encourages a over-competitive and unfriendly behaviour.

Not necessarily. I was on a PBEM list that started their own ladder, and it's a small decent community.

Yes, it depends on the community.
