Out of curiousity, is there speciel (as in, inter-species) tensions between humans and ponies in the Realm of Chaos? Segregation? Anything of the sort?
The government is pretty fair. Everyone is oppressed equally. Non-ponies aren't really allowed into positions of power or evidently the military. They are used in other capacities for the war effort though.
Things are generally better for humans in the territory which had long been integrated into uhh 'ponyvilization' Pretty much anywhere West of Ponyta. Albeit not much better than recently occupied zones. Not to mention that there are seldom few humans in the uhh "core regions": canterlot, ponyville, vanhoover, salt lick city.

War! Equestria is crumbling under its own weight and the ruthless Chaos Lord, Discord.
There aren't really heroes on any side. Evil is everywhere.
In a stunning move Equestrian Forces have swept into India and ignored General Secretary Stalin, leader of the United Nations.
As the Equestrian Army attempts to secure the besieged nation, two Asian super powers lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive India....
Royal Guards soon had control over western India.
Despite their successes in the war Equestria was still not entirely stable. Some were starting to think it had something to do with burning down Mexicans cities repeatedly 100 years ago. But most knew that would be a silly reason for a country to be unstable.
In Europe the cossacks had launched an attack against all of Paris.
Equestria's forces continued to run across India, not thinking about tomorrow, launching tactical nukes all summer long.
General Secretary Stalin had an emergency meeting with Japan in which he privately told the Japanese leader to move to the Kagoshima, that he would be safe there. The Japanese had doubts about Stalin's ability to keep Japan safe without De Gaul.
Sombra had gathered an army large enough to capture three cities. The 4th tribunal naval fleet of Equestria was poised to launch a full scale assault on mainland Japan. At last the pony nation would reveal itself to the Japanese, at last they would have their revenge.
Following the initial atomic bombardment Royal Guards were deployed to secure the mainland.
Off the coast of Japan the wooden navies of the Japan proved to be no match for the steel laden Equestrian ships, which could move over beaches apparently.
After a short but bitter fight Japanese Federation Mechanized Infantry were driven out of Akita.
The Japanese launched a counter strike attempting to retake Kushiro.
In the non-Indus Valley of India the Khmer launched an invasion of Delhi with just artillery. One Soldier was quoted as saying: "The artillery guns, they've stopped"
A Japanese Transport had launched a full scale attack against an Equestrian transport. The records of the battle are somewhat debated, but it is assumed that it really didn't matter.
It was not looking good for the Japanese at all. Equestria unleashed the radiance of thousand lense glares upon the south.
Japan had shipped counter strike: 2 retaking northern Japan.
The Khmer cannot be stopped.
The first Equestrian Paratroopers saw action. The unit consisted entirely of Pegasus. Although it was rumored that there was a non winged branch. There is no record of whether they had parachutes or not though.
In the waning hours of the invasion of Japan Tirek approached Discord stating:
"Join me Discord and I will make your face the Greatest in all of Equestria"
Despite you know already having control over Equestria and the power to make his face the greatest Discord accepted this deal. Tirek stated that every single member of Pony royalty including King Sombra were now an enemy of Equestria.
To which Discord replied: "Great I'll grab my stuff" Discord instituted Plan 55, the quiet assassination of all members of the royal family. Royal Guards had reported that Sombra, who had been leading the assault had died, in a nuclear accident. Several other members of the royal family were later found dead.
Shortly following the bombing of the Hoenn region, followed by an occupation of the region by the Royal Guard, Japanese forces sued for peace. Discord had promised them peace. Historical reports state that "they only want " the remainder of the log had likely been lost in the war.
With the fall of Japan the rational for the war itself had been destroyed. Yet the war continued on. Ponies everywhere knew it, that this would be war without end. Yet still some had hope for a day in which the evils of this world would be cast aside.
It is a period of ongoing war. Equestrian battleships, striking from Canterlot, have won their first major victory against the evil Mongolian Empire.
After the battle, Equestrian spies managed to steal secret plans to the Mongol's ultimate weapon, the STRATEGIC DEFENSE INITIATIVE, an armored satellite with enough power to destroy an entire nuke.
Pursued by the Mongol's sinister agents, Royal Guards race home aboard their battleship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save their ponies' nukes and restore freedom to Equestria....
Royal Guards continued fighting a losing war on the dual fronts of Italy and India.
In negotiations with the Incans Huayna Cupac was convinced that Advanced Flight was not the tech he was looking for.
Equestria continued to use its fully operational tactical nukes to push ahead despite having minimal forces left in India. There obviously has no adverse affects on general ecology. In fact there were some subjects of thought that claimed that the release of the nuclear energy would make the planet more rad.
For centuries Eastern propagandists have been actualizing the lie that True Korea was apart of the Mongol Empire. When in actuality the Mongol Empire was secretly apart of True Korea. So secret in fact that no one knew about it. Not the Japanese, not the Mongols, not even the Equestrians.

The Great Kim Jong Un Supreme Leader of True Korea now stood between Equestria and greatness. Everypony knew in their heart of hearts that a great nation such as True Korea could not coexist with Equestria. True Korea simply had too great crop yields as well as an unwavering and strangely attractive leader.
As Equestria's fleet neared the shores of True Korea. The ponies on board the landing crafts remembered the last doomed invasion of Korea. How so many ponies had been routed almost as soon as they had landed.
The commander of the invasion forces decided to take no chances and destroyed the worker army of True Korea.
Their numbers decimated by the horrors of atomic fire the Korean army was quickly destroyed by Equestria's royal guard.
Near Canterlot a faithful student was conversing with a dark unicorn. The latter said: "You must learn the ways of slavery if you're to come with me to Ponyville." To which the former replied: "I'm not going to Ponyville. I've got to go home. It's late, I'm in for it as it is." To which he said "I need your help. Equestria needs your help. I'm getting blown up too much for this sort of thing."
The two ponies sedition conversation was not heard by the royal guard, those who dared speak out against Equestria were never seen again, never heard again, and never thought again.
Soviet Tanks were a near daily visitor to Paris. Russians wanted so desperately to vacation in France.
Khmer tacticians continued their brilliant shelling of Eastern India. They decided that actually taking the region was not a priority.
General Secretary Stalin had a brilliant plan to pass a bill in the UN which would make Russia the undisputed Civilization champion of the world. Discord felt as though Equestria should hold the title. It was rumored that the UN vote would be broadcast live and be available through HBO and pay-per-view.
Equestria had decided to attempt to sway Russia's ideas of the upcoming vote in the UN. Mainly through lessening Russia's voter base.
As the war dragged on and the Equestrian army marched on ponies continued to dissent against the government. Ponies continued to cease to exist. Everyone knew that the status quo could not be continued forever. That eventually the Realm of Chaos would be nothing more than a memory.
It is a dark time for Equestria. Although True Korea has been destroyed, Mongol troops have been driven by the Equestrian forces from their bases and pursued across Asia.
Evading the dreaded Grander Army of Equestria, a group of freedom fighters led by Twilight Sparkle have established a new secret base on the remote icy land of the frozen north.
The evil lord Discord, obsessed with finding Twilight, has dispatched thousands of guards into the far reaches of the arctic....
Equestrian Generals began their ingenious battle plans for the invasion of Asia. For they knew that only through a costly extremely long and drawn out conflict could Equestria reign supreme.
Then they decided to use nukes instead.
Despite their full proof plan the Mongols SDI had destroyed one of Equestria's Nukes. The ability to destroy a nuke was insignificant next to the power of slavery.
Equestria continued it's fiendish master plan. That it assured the general populace was completely necessary and not repetitive or a waste of life at all.
After a fairly through bombardment the Equestrian army marched on Qufu.
On the loser front Indian front Equestria continued to take heavy losses and, with no real reinforcements to spare, were largely on their own.
The commander in the region ordered that their last nuke be used to destroy the Khmer Garrison to the south.
As the war carried on resources began becoming more and more scarce not only at home but abroad as well. In Europe some of the new recruits were being equipped with farm grade weaponry in lieu of swords. One recruit was quoted as stating: "These are potatoes! Why are we using potatoes instead of real swords?" To which the commander responded: "Because real swords are valuable! In fact, they are worth a lot more than you are!"
Despite, or perhaps because of, these inequities, the Equestrian garrison continued to hold the line against Russian tanks.
There were times when Paris would temporarily fall to the soviets but it would be taken back soon after. It was a stalemate in Europe.
In Equestria Discord was wandering through some tall grass when suddenly.
After eyeing each other wearily they engaged in a conflict which culminated in a heated discussion.
Discord: "Sombra never told you what happened to Princess Celestia."
Twilight: "He told me enough, he told you me you killed her!"
Discord: "No, she totally got stoned!"
Twilight: "That's not true, that's impossible!"
"And Shining Armor is your brother!"
"That's not true that's improbable"
"And Equestria will be destroyed by rudimentary programming"
"That's very unlikely"
Records on what happened after this discussions are disputed. But what is clear is that Twilight somehow fell or was pushed into a bottomless pit; falling either to avoid capture or to her doom respectively.
Equestria's scientists had completed the study of ecology. Because for some reason they thought that with the constant warring going on throughout the world, ecology was of the utmost importance.
A great merchant had somehow emerged in the Equestrian capital of Canterlot. This was especially strange since Equestria had long been under a doctrine of state planning, and individual thought was largely frowned upon.
This great merchant combined their efforts with other great people to bring about a golden age in Equestria.
In East Asia Equestria's flawless fiendish master plan of invading Asia had taken a hit. It was inconceivable that such a well plotted plan could possibly be countered.
Nuclear arms that had been stationed in Turkey were deployed against southern Russia. They weren't able to have much of an impact but the military kept to its motto: "It's better than nothing"
The constant wars, whipping, terrible diplomatic relations, and lack of exercise were really starting to catch up with Equestria. The only thing that was keeping the nation together was the ruthless efficiency its army with almost fanatical devotion to their leader.
Supplies across Equestria and throughout the world were running thin. People and ponies alike were suffering. They needed change, they needed hope you can believe in. There are are even some who go so far as to say they needed to move forward. Since they couldn't very well simply lean.
Twilight has returned to her home town of Canterlot in an attempt to rescue Celestia from the clutches of the vile gangster Discord the Hutt.
The MONGOL EMPIRE has secretly begun construction on a new armored space station even more powerful than the first dreaded Strategic Defense Initiative.
When completed, this ultimate weapon will spell certain doom for the band of Equestrias nukes struggling to restore 'freedom' to the world...
As trouble was brewing at home Equestria's army fought on in Manchuria.
Nopony really knew though. Twilight and Luna, with their combined strength, were able to free Celestia from the stone. Adding a third member to their party.
They realized that they were powerful than Discord, they... they could overthrow him. And together, they could rule Equestria. They could make things the way they wanted them to be.
Their party encountered Discord, following a brief altercation in which Discord threw a couple of ponies and a centaur into a bottomless pit, Discord was picked up and thrown into said pit. It was assumed that no one wanted to go into the pit since it burned.
With that Princess Celestia and Luna took control over Equestria. Abolishing slavery, nationalism, and communism; as well overseeing the conversion of Equestria into a more democratic society.
Albeit one which was still officially overseen by quasi-multi monarch. For the most part this change was a positive for all ponies. However there were still some communist hold outs in far flung nameless towns.
After a bit of deliberation the New Equestrian government decided to shift the entirety of Equestria's commercial power towards economic development. There were also rumors that they wanted to shield the public from the horrors of the Internet by slowing down the development of computers.
Equestria had finally lost its hold on Paris. Russian tanks were seen rolling through the streets.
While slavery had officially been abolished in Equestria for nearly 3 years there were still a fair bit slaves in the nation. While the core region of Equestria had done away with slavery long ago the east was still actively practicing the heinous act. It was for this reason that the Pony Abolition was organized and sent out east. It was said that the slave traders and owners did not expect this turn of events.
With no other options coupled with the fact that Equestria was losing ground in Europe, and Rome would not stop building caravels, Princess Celestia and Luna ordered a nuclear launch on Russia.
Arabia had some of the best and brightest in the world.
Equestria took control over southern China.
In hopes of lessening strain on the European front Equestria continued its nuclear campaign against Russia.
Unfortunately the Russians had begun using mongol technology.
For years, even before the establishment of the New Republic, Equestria had been providing the Dutch with a small arsenal of Tactical Nuclear Weapons. The Dutch started threatening Equestria with said weapons. I guess you could say if you ain't Dutch you ain't much.
Equestria's last holdout in Southeast India was under almost constant bombardment. Although there had been a recent change that you can believe in, the regiment stationed there was still largely on its own.
In the far east Mongol forces had reclaimed Korea. At least that's what Mongol, Equestrian, Khmer, Japanese Holdout, and Russian authorities would have you believe. In actuality it was True Korea, and its glorious leader Kim Jong Un, which had liberated Korea from the capitalist pony dogs.
Equestria pushed back against the Mongols. Retaking the city of Qufu.
The Mongolians knew that the best defense was no defense.
Meanwhile Ponies fought marines over wheat and the Russians had built a seat.
Equestria continued nuking Mongolia. But all they really wanted to do was bomb some dodongos.
Xian fell to the Equestrian army as it marched further west.
With the fall of Chaos, already Equestria was returning to harmony; the birds were singing. Wasn't it beautiful. For the first time in years widespread starvation was not the norm in Equestria. Could things ever go wrong? Most of those in Equestria did not think that they would.
