Hey! As its said in civilopedia hints: "never start a land war in Asia!". I wanna know if its truth and basicly what was meant by this? I'm playing for Tokugawa, so I should not start a war with China? But why?

it dpendes what size map...this implies for larger maps...because there is too much area to cover counter attacks can come from anywhere...not to mention mountain ranges limits movemnt in those parts..making defense easy...applies only when attacking from west to east

invading countries in asia can become difficult if not prepared

The original quote is curtailed, it should read:-

"Never fight a land war in Asia Carrerra" :mischief:

if your japan go for it...atack coastal cities..china always expands into korea...limiting japan's expansion

And only slightly less well-known is this: Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line.

Inconceivable! :)

They're just saying it's hard. Of course if you're IN Asia, you need to fight land battles. It's like- Don't invade Russia in winter. Generally it's true but there are plenty of exceptions.

usually asian civs that are in asia have alot of room to expand making them more difficult...

it isnt a law to not fight land wars in asia...but a mere suggestion that will depend entirely on the specific game you are playing....

generally it will take more land unitss to invade larger countries and countries thatare in asia tend to be larger....

if you are china, you have a lot of room to expand, which is to your advantage

Ah, no. I meant that the Mongols were the only people who had successfully attacked Russia in the winter. Napoleon and Hitler failed. The Mongols actually liked conducting war in the winter due to several advantages it gave them.

I think the "Never fight a land war in Asia" hint is a reference to a movie.

The quote was stated in The Princess Bride, but I'm not sure if it originated there. It's possible this is just a joke by the programmers.
