Just wondering. :) I started up a game today as Joao II using the XXL world mod.

The map gen placed me in the north. I won't finish this game, of course, but if anyone HAS actually won on a map size larger than huge, I commend you. :goodjob:

My largest is huge, when I won several earth 18 games.

That Portugese start is just funny!

I have won many times on marathon/huge, mostly in my pre-RPC days.

I have never bothered to play anything larger than Standard size. My micro tolerance in the late game is fairly low :p

That's a crazy amount of resources though! :crazyeye:

I won a Space Race as China on the GEM map(Warlord difficulty).

I can't imagine going for domination or conquest though O_O

If the movement rates for units aren't changed to deal with that mapsize, any pre-railroad war is doomed to fail.

More land -> More cities -> More production -> More units.
Obviously many stacks would be more effective, and much easier with the increased production.

MM and diplo would be really hellish on that mapsize though... I mean TMiT would have to do multiple sessions there!

EDIT: 4 Silver in the BFC, not bad :D

The resources on that map are RickDiculous! At first I thought it was a Rorschach test!

My comp bogs in the late game with large maps, but I am usually stubborn enough to slog through. I probably would crash before Lib on that XXL monster.

That's a funny start. If it were Monarch or below, you could probably still win space with just the single city...although it is very food poor.

Personally, my machine buckles on huge maps late game but I managed to finish one...but only one.

I've never even attempted anything in regular BTS larger than "large."

In RFC, the stock map is "huge." I've finished a few, but my computer hates me for it.

Difficulty level: emperor.

Oddly enough, I also won a Space Race as China on a real earth map (32 civs, I think? Some crazy number). It was nuts and really, really fun. If I had the patience, I think I could have won domination. I controlled all of Asia, Russia, and through Europe to Spain. Some Africa conquest of North American campaigns could have probably pushed me over the edge, but I just wanted a break. That game had been going on for well over a week.

I meant your units will be obsolete by the time they get there.

In my case it was a Huge map when I was still playing on Prince. After that my PC got slow and I never went to anything larger than Large on purpose.

didn't know there was maps larger then Huge, I've won a couple of games on that size.

Love to try max space ship production, personal record it 13 turns from 1st build to launch on Marathon speed, Emperor level.

You really need a HUGE wall street city for cash generation there, 2 corps, 1 religion (Buddhism), and spread to all cities.

Nope, won quite a bunch of huge maps, but those games do tend to get tedious after a while.

I did really enjoy my huge map game with Aggresive AI, No tech trading. I was on a pretty big good isolated island while 15 AI's were on a huge continent. Tokugawa managed to vassal 9 other AI's... He got really close to a domination win before I won cultural. It's that the AI is really lousy at winning Domination as he could've easily pulled it off with his 150+units SOD.
