hi everyone,

i can't seem to edit the 1.21g civ3mod.bic file with the editor provided (1.32) or the downloaded one (1.32.1) (i load the civ3mod.bic file, and can't save it, just the dreaded beachball of death...)

if anyone is really bored, do you feel like posting an edited civ3mod.bic file which just allows for lethal land/sea bombardment for any bombardment type unit (ie, catapult, cannon, artillery, radar artillery, sea units, and bombers/jet fighters/cruise missiles?)

many thanks in advance... :)

Did you try opening up the editor, then from the file menu choose open, then select the civ3mod.bic? Be sure to back it up in case things go awry. It may help you avoid a reinstall.

yep, basically here's what i'm doing:

1. fresh install (with civ3edit - 1.32) in Applications
2. open civ3edit
3. open civ3mod.bic
4. save
5. beach ball

then tried deleting civ3edit, and downloading 1.32.1
repeat.
beach ball. *sigh*

10.3.2, powerbook G4 400mhz

One more thing, make sure that CivEdit is IN the Civ3 application folder, not within the editor folder within the Civ3 application folder. The editor will only work if it is IN the Civ3 application folder.

Hard Drive -> Applications -> Civ3 -> CivEdit

This doesn't sound like the usual version and installation problems, as meme is able to open the .bic file and presumably to edit it on screen. The problem comes at save time. I wonder if there's a permissions problem ... Have you tried save as instead of just save, to create an edited copy somewhere else?

Your file is here.
All units with bombard strength non-zero and nukes, ICBMs, cruise missiles now have lethal land and sea bombardment. Haven't tested it though, so no guarantees.

thanks! :)

ya, i'm not sure what the problem is, i just can't save the civ3mod.bic file anywhere (ie, i can create a separate scenario and save it, but i can't open the civ3mod.bic file and save it anywhere, or as anything else. i believe i checked the permissions, but perhaps i should go do that again...)

You might try running repair permissions from the installer CD.

FWiW: I downloaded the .bic file posted by Trixter above -- thanx everso -- and it works fine. Really good to be able to use catapults to take out the opposition. It makes the creation of combined stacks much more interesting.

And meme -- I have never been able to get the Editor to work properly. GOTM and heaps of other mods work fine on my Pather/iMac system; the Editor, No!

weird, ah well, as long as i can take out people with my artillery i'm happy :) thanks again.

I had a recent exchange here with another player who was having persistent problems with the editor. He eventually tracked it down to a faulty version of the editor. We never worked out where it came from or how it got the way it was on his system, but when he found a good download he was able to run the editor. His bad editor was missing numerous significant resources which prevented it from launching successfully at all, so this was not like meme's problem. But if those symptoms match yours then I suggest you go get a fresh copy from MacGameFiles
