Also as a side note to what's above, games probably go much faster if all players are on the same timezones (or have an harmonious schedule).
And it's possible to run several games at once, PYDT automates that very well.

Yeah timezones are key.
I will say though I hadn't played VP in a while but this game makes it very fun. Human opponents change everything, you can make alliances, agreements, etc.
And, PYDT is super convenient, if you install the app (don't have to) it's just one click and then two more in civ 5 to load the save. Also, it seems well maintained as there literally was an update to it today.
