As you notice, his medal doesn't have a texture yet, and his cap is still the same as De Gaulle's. And his face is rather chubby. But, as I'm back to school today, I'm putting this out there so that someone else can improve it.

this is excellent Niks :goodjob:...now I'm debating if I should add him to China now or wait for someone to make the improvements.

I reshaped his head a bit to fit better the model (and touched slightly the cap). However, the side of his face and his ear are entierly black (I haven't touched the texture), and this will be one of the main flaw of the LH.

Didn't had time to retouch anything else, I'm really busy and I only wanted to give a little help on this one.

Well, slapping the name Chiang Kai Shek on a model doesn't make him look like Chiang Kai Shek.

I know LH making is difficult, and certainly beyond my skills... this is not a "you suck" statement, I just think the model here (either version) while looks nice in and of themselves, neither looks like Chiang Kai Shek IMHO. The face just isn't right on either of them. Quite frankly, they look more "generic asian" then like Chiang Kai Shek. It's hard to put into words how to fix/correct the problem, other then it just doesn't look like him... pull up some pictures of Chiang... the face just doesn't look like him on either. Maybe it's just me, but these LH's could be anybody in Asia... but they don't look specific to Chiang.

What if they give him a 'stache?

That would be a start... but it's a lot more then just missing a 'stache. The whole face just doesn't look like Chiang. The eyebrows for one are also totally off... I'd say the fact as a whole is too "thick" on the model too... should be thinned... it's really just not the right look at all for Chiang as it currently is.

Look, I know this LH is far from perfect, but I put it out so someone else can work on it as I'm extremely busy. I totally agree that it doesn't look like him yet, but I'm too busy to do anything about it right now.
NikNaks, don't take it personal... I wasn't trying to say you suck, I was just making an honest observation that I didn't think it looked like Chiang... if you don't have time, you don't have time. I mean... was I supposed to say it's a dead-ringer for Chiang if I didn't think he was?

Put it on the back-burner if you don't have time... I was just giving my honest opinion. :dunno:

eyes should be smaller in general, throw a wrinkle on teh cheak, make the eyebrows smaller/lighter, chin flatter, nose flatter (on the bottom). Honestly you may have been better off trying to make Bismark look asian.

Good point... For an asian, Chaing looks rather... "European". Just about everything other then the eyes is kinda euro-looking.

Not sure which European model might look more like Chiang... didn't put much thought into that, but that could also be another avenue one could check and/or look into (if one had the time).

Also, Ho-Chi Minh and Tokugawa are probably a little more like Chiang then Wang is on the default model side of things.

In my own opinion, this model is actually off to a good start.

Ignoring the Kon skin (I am sure a good skinner can work wonders on this model), if you really take a good look at the my Chiang face study below, the only glaring thing that is off is really is the bottom half of his face, his lips should be a bit higher, the bottom lip should be thinner and the mouth should be a bit wider. And of course he should be less chubby, AND those facial lines should be erased around the bottom half of his mouth (I don’t know if that’s skinning or on the actually model)…

Besides that there is really only minor stuff, the eyebrows need to be adjusted (again, I don’t know whether or not that’s skinning or the model), and the nose probably a bit of adjustment and his eyes should be reshaped a tad.

But I think that the only reason people don’t recognize the Chiang in this reshaped Kon is because of two things, the lower face and the skin job.

Just another opinion.

I can't wait to see it! :D
I honestly think that the chin area is where most of the problem is, I hope you can fix it. China needs another modern leader to balance out Mao.

The eyebrows stand out the most to me right off the bat... the chin, the puffiness of the cheeks and the lower lip need to be worked as well.

The biggest problem is the texutre. The head is easy to reshape to fit the model, but the facial musculature and traits (wrinkles and all the kit) is represented via the baking of a high resolution sculpted mesh. Some skinners like Bernie have used some phototexturing techniques that simulates the baking of the high resolution mesh, but it's harder with older model that we can't find good picture. The only way to make him really look like the real guy, is to sculpt him in a program like Zbrush, generate a normal map, create a specular map and than bake all the texture for the nonshader version. That is what they have done at Firaxis for the vanilla LH. I don't have time presently to do this with this LH, I'm really busy and I can't afford a project like this.

Just found this thread... :p I made this Chang Kai Shek LH a long time ago, I don't have the actual files anymore (windows crap) but maybe it'll help you plan your (next?) version of this one:
