Message from George III, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, etc. and Elector of Hannover.
Nantes still stands. French voltgiers outside the city have been routed, without loss to allied troops (mainly Household Cavalry).
In Italy, the French invasion force has been completely routed. Just near to Florence, the decisive Battle of Florence, 1802 was fought. Two French units of Imperial Cavalry, and two voltgier units were destroyed, and a unit of canon was captured as a prize, in a combined efforts utilising canon, Household Cavalry, and life guards of the Coldstream Guards.
The captured canon will be melted down for the "Florence Medal", available to officers in the Army.
A further Ottomon transport was sunk near Palmi.
Apart from that, the sea's are quiet, and it looks like the status quo of Pax Britannia has been restored.

Austrian Hussars finally reached the outskirts of Bryansk in late december. There a Russian Guard counterattack was destoryed to a man by the elite 1st Vienna Hussars.
Ragged Russian troops, reported to be what was left of the killers of the 3rd Warsaw Hussars, were spotted hiding in the woods east of Bryansk.
2nd Vienna Hussars Bravest Son
The 2nd Vienna Hussars took revenge for the destruction of the Horse Raiding 2nd Tarnopol Hussars. During the annihilation of the Russian Guard a commander showed so much promise, he was field promoted to Fieldmarshal.

Prussian forces halted at the Gates of Minsk
Fierce battles have raged this winter, Russian forces trying to reach Vilnus from the east and north have been routed despite heavy losses, whilst the reinforced garrisson of Minsk repelled an assault by brave Prussian troops, attacks to bombard the Russians into surrender have failed leaving the Prussian commander to re-consider his options. The situation is perhaps best described as a stalemate. However a stalemate serves the Austro-Prussian alliance well as their forces combined with Ottoman troops run riot in the south.

As we move into 1803, the King is pleased to announce that the war goes well. Further Spanish Soldado's were routed north of Porto by British solders (without unit loss). There are quite a few units of Spanish Cavalry moving into attack some of the Portugese cities, but we have British Redcoats there, and the King has every faith in his men to do their duty.
Our war at sea continues, but once again we reign almost supreme. The only ships that dared to challenge our authority was a pirate ship off the coast of Skagen (tip of Denmark). The pirate was sunk before he could create any international incidents.
Other than that, a quiet month.

Althrough the Russian town held and several Hussars regiments lost over half there companies. The Russian losses were very heavy. Fieldmarshal Fritz is confident that Byryansk will fall by May. As his army and several newly form hussars regs are on there way.
In the West
Ottoman horse units were again crossing the Austrian-Ottoman border.
Austrian Grenzers will be stationed to keep the roads open to Austrian military.

Russian forces launched a series of isolated attacks to breakthrough to Vilnus, all of which were driven off albeit with heavy casualties. Meanwhile a attempt by Russian guards to breakout of Minsk to the east was thwarted by cuirassiers.
It was against this background the the Duke of Brunswick order the assault on Minsk. The initial bombardment caused havoc amongst the defenders. It was only the determined bravery of the militia that saved the city from capture though the loss in life has been terrible. Unless reinforcements can find a way to relieve the beleaguered defenders the garrison is unlikely to survive a second assault .

he has ordered an immediate refitting of the army, and nantes is planned to return to the fold before the year is out.
