Libraries First

PieceOfMind has a mod you can download that effectively duplicates Babylon.

Hah nice. I'm actually wondering how they think they can ask for 5 bucks when you can get it free in a legit manner.

Finished up the sub-200 Spaceship game. Explanation is up in this forum.

Haven't tried it with the French, but it's probably doable (under 200 turns, I mean) with them if you play better than I did that game. Can't see under 200 with anyone other than the Babs or French.

As for 55 Science by turn 85 - I have no idea. I don't usually hit that milestone until around 90-95. Then I blow past it when the Uni in the capital goes up and Secularism lands. I go from 100 to 400 in about 20 turns.

Ten cities is easy. Just don't let them grow past size 2, and punk your nearest neighbor with a Warrior rush. Once you upgrade several of those to Swords, AIs will leave you alone. Then you can just spam Settlers.

have you tried to war anyway for GG's to burn for GA's and pillaging(gold)?

Well, this will not be a question at all if you are playing china. ;) (refering to the OP's question)

I Warrior rush right out of the gate, and typically end up earning a GG during a defensive war. And yes, he's great for a late 8 turn GA.

Even tho by turn 200 it is not possible for other civ. I think most civ can do it by 250-300. The thing is I can't even do that on prince >.<.

My current game seems possible as I am currently at around 200 with 200 beaker and 170gpt without golden age.

I am confident that other civs can do it no later than turn 220. It may be possible to go faster. I made a lot of mistakes in that game.

after i learn how to play properly, i would try =). I feel that i am "peaceful" player. i kind of dislike going to war with the intention to create space for my civilization in 100turns(or 1000years later), which kind of funny if you ask me.

I am currently playing a Marathon game, where things are so slow that every single tree seems to matter... Don't get me wrong, I like it that way, and I found that in this pace the development and organisation of the cities is much more important. Because you're spending so many turn to grow a level of pop, you can't afford going below the happiness 0 level too much and therefore you need to restrain the growth yourself.

The connexion with the current thread is that the best and more productive way I found to do so is to enroll my citizens as specialists and all the first specialist building are just great about that.

This include the library of course, but also temples and workshops. I may also add that the respective increase in either science, culture or hammers of each specialist, although still as weak as in other speed game, has a much more significant effect of the timeline of your evolution. One specialist effectively can cut down a couple of turn for a discovery or a building and that count!

Generally speaking, I feel the all game is much more balanced, or optimized let say, at slow pace than rapid ones.

How about the National Library?
Does that make any difference in your choice between libraries and colliseums?
Or do you just skip the NL altogether?
I imagine it boosts science enough to build it..

Libraries are pretty quick builds, and I tend to build them in every city, but not usually my first build. I like to get monument, granary, workshop/windmill up in every city typically. That said, however, I see no reason not to build the science buildings in every city since it relies on population. I also like Rationalism, and every city probably has some trading posts and/or jungles, so it benefits even more.

I go libraries before coliseums. My goal is to get GS to pop to industrial (along with the 2 free techs from the rationalism SP tree). Then I grab communism and the late-game explosion is on. I can usually handle the unhappiness and puppeted cities often have the luxes I need to stay over -10. Plus the puppets do well enough building coliseums when they are needed.

I do typically grab the colliseum tech right after I get writing.

I've never seen anyone ever mentioning any National Wonders as crucial to any victory. Someone prove me wrong...?

For instance, the National College gives 50% for 1 city? It changes in cost with more cities. I've seen it as a late build for over 1000 hammers when the global science was over 1500 bpt. Why spend over 1000 hammers for maybe an extra 20 beakers?
