Limited techs when suing for peace

When I have attacked another country solely for the purpose of "beating" there techs out of them it annoys me that I can only request one level of techs.

For example, if they know Writing, Philosophy, Literature, and Code of Laws and I have them pinned down to one city and they finally agree to give me a tech, I can only get Writing. Heck, if I was only going to get one tech out of them I would do it myself. I don't want to have to wait 20 turns to declare war again and get the other techs out of them.

Am I missing anything or is there some way to get other civs to give you ALL of their known techs - not just the first level techs?

Anyone? Anyone?

you cant demand it, couse you dont know it exists. in the game, that is. think about it, would a civ thats stranded in the medieval era know the concept of genetic engeneering?(sp?)

Yeah, your answer makes perfect sense. And I mostly agree that seems to be how it works in the game, but I don't think it entirely holds water. For example, I'm sure some of the more historically knowledgeable fans around here could give examples of some backwards civ that knew Rome/England/China could do some advanced technology but they didnt' know how. If I knew that China had Writing and because of that also knew the secrets of this strange thing called "philosphy" and "code of laws" and "literature" why couldn't I demand it? Even if I didn't know what or how they worked? Kind of the point of a tech if you ask me. If I already knew how Writing worked, I wouldn't have asked for it in the first place.

yes, but they would deny knowledge of those things... cant just walk around demanding things thats not, can you?

i see what your aiming at but its just there as another blockade against war you have to go around it reaserch writing yourself and then ask for the techs

Again, I'll agree with you that is how the game works, but I will politely disagree with that hypothesis and game decision.

Anyway, you have pretty much confirmed what I already thought so thanks.

If I think I'm in this type of situation, I buy the lower level tech from another CIV before negotiating my peace treaty so I can get access to the juicy ones.

Another option may be to make peace for the techs you can see, then renegotiate peace for higher level ones. :)

Can you renegotiate before the 20 turns is up? I've never tried it. To tell the truth, I've never renegotiated peace down the road by demanding more. Have people had a lot of success with this? I guess I should be taking more advantage of it.

I tend to "rotate" my enemies. As soon as I make peace with one, a treaty is expiring with another, so instead of renegotiating, I just redeclare war.

:die:

No you cant renegotiate for more, you have to beat the crap out of them some more before they will be willing to give you more in my experience. The AI is stubborn. I generally like to make peace as soon as possible and choose a new target as well. 19 round wars are to my liking.
