If a city is conqured in the ancient, middle age then there should be assimulation, but after nationlism (or some other tech) it should end.

If lets say China invaded and took over France, the people wouuld not stop rioiting after just a few days (turns), maybe war in the modern age should be differnt? Occupying cities, or installing a friendly goverment instead?

Assimilation is badly handled. It should rely much more on culture and much less on just time, because a strong culture will never ge4t assimilated, where a weak one might. Simply put, the nationality should stay there, so that if you invade poland as Germany, its not like all the people would be german after three years.

I disagree. Assimilation still happens, it just takes generations.

Assimilation does not always happen. Sometimes it erupts into complete and utter conflict and thus genocide. Sometimes there's even reverse assimilation -- where the barbarians invade China but are assimilated into Chinese culture. Not to say that Civ should model these things, but assimilation needs a lot of rethinking -- at least if you want to make it meaningful. Otherwise you might as well take it out.

At around the time of nationalism turns take about five years. Rioting stops after a few turns, but assimilation takes much longer, like it already is in the game.

If we are going by civ year=real year, a dozen rebeliions would happen in those first few turns on average.

i think assimilation should always happen in totaliarisms. There is no discussion under the power and the terror system of one man. Fascism, great monarchies... after the death of the ruler and/or the specific regime, population should take over its rights by the mediation of a leader if necessary. i would want that new frontiers would take form, or new culture influences, and maybe new nationalities.

Example: King1 rules Persia and make war to Greece. Conquers all Greek cities. 100% assimiliation. King1 dies and he has no heir. His regime falls. Greek cities feel a culture pressure. Of course it supposes that a given ruler can die.
