Little questions & answers thread

When I move to exploration age, my ships always disappear…is this by design? Or is it possible to have ships carry over if I had less units on the board?
There's a limited number of units saved on age transition, plus units to fill commanders. The priority for saving is for units defending cities, so ships are the first to cut. In exploration age you could train naval commanders, this allows saving ships for modern.

It says its out of range. I just got an available trade route to another city just now.

Spoiler Here it says I can trade with Tarsus now. Not sure why. Maybe because it's coastal? :
I think the red vs. green color indicator only denotes that the city does or doesn't have enough resources for you to trade with. You're very clearly in range of the Greek cities, but the cities might not have enough resources to exchange.

Is there a way to see how long it takes for a dead commander to respawn? Or a way to find your commanders if you’ve set one to sleep somewhere?
No and no. Be very careful where you put units to sleep, because you may never find them again.

I think your ships are converted to Ships of the Line if you have enough Naval Commanders to contain them.

I think it's not possible to keep them. Maybe if you have only 5 or less Land Units and a Coastal Settlement? But they for sure cannot be packed inside an Army Commander.
Also, some unit types do not carry over. I had a Ballista and yet no Siege Unit after the transition, even with 3 place left in an Army Commander.

Do factory resources do anything by being slotted into Factories? The percentage bonuses are really small, significantly worse than regular resources, and of course there's the victory points, but in all honesty with the small size of their bonuses and the limit of one per city I was kind of expecting the bonuses to be global. Just to give an idea of how weak they seem to be.

EDIT: Nvm I think they are global and the yields for other towns/cities don't properly upgrade when you slot them in.

Note that they are not limit one per city, but limit one _type_ per city. If you have a bunch of factory resources of the same type (and have enough slots), you can throw a bunch into the same city.

So I just discovered monk mounds as Tecumseh, but the option to build it doesn’t show in any of my settlements? I do have rivers within my borders and buildable tiles next to them. Any help?
I was able to build it I believe it has to be on grassland?

Sometimes I can buy Settlers. Sometimes, I can't. Towns/cities are big enough to produce them. What gives?

Can we conquer an IP. I killed the units and my army is sitting in the city..turn...after..turn..nothing is happenign

You need to press through button that says disperse settlement.
Does sitting a unit on top of the "conquered IP settlement stop it's unit spawning? Does it take longer or cost more influence to befriend a hostile conquered IP than a non-conquered one or for a friendly one

You need enough money, enough pops and a urbsn tile which has no civilian unit in it. Also you can only buy one unit per turn per settlement.

Weird, I had all those things. The Settler simply didn't appear as an option. It does now, some turns later.

Is there any way to liberate a city-state? AI conquered one of my city-states and I tried to recapture it in the hopes of being able to return it but it didn't work - is there just an option I missed?

Click on the “Show Hidden” button, it should give you an explanation in red text as to why you can’t build/buy something at this time. There are some secret rules dictating what can be bought - for example, if you buy Walls you can’t also buy a unit in that settlement on the same turn.

How do I use mementos? I tried to slot the + Expansionst attribute point one to get +25% settler production right from the game start, but in game, I don't have any points to spend.

That answers my question too. Thanks!

Maybe you didn't equip it properly?

The first time I tried to equip two mementos I accidently put my 2nd choice over the first memento. The UI doesn't automatically switch to the second slot when you pick. To check, go in game, click on your own leader image, then the head with the ? mark and scroll all the way down, it will show you what mementos you chose to start the game with.

How is everyone finding Treasure Fleets? I've had a lot of difficulty getting very far down the Economy track in Exploration until my current game, as Isabella with Spain, and I am absolutely crushing it.
