In all honesty, the Ljosfalter worldspell kinda sucks. My GF has been playing them for... well... since I got her to stop playing the kuriotates back in .33. Since that time, I think she's actually cast the worldspell once, and has since then not seen any use for it, even on crowded maps. Even if they do start fortified, I still don't really see the point in the spell.

I'm not really sure I understand the point of the poll. Human or AI should only cast this spell when there are a lot of enemy units (or a very powerful enemy) that is either in your territory or within the treants' short movement range. Once cast, all treants should move quickly to attack. So, I guess the answer should be "no". I think a better question would be: when should the AI cast this spell?

1. DoW'd by powerful civ.
2. Many (or very powerful) enemy units within range of owned forests.

I'm assuming #1 is current method, because I can useually kill Ljoslfar by: 1) DoW, 2) watch the Ljos power graph go through the roof, 3) wait till power graph returns to normal, 4) begin conquest. (You don't even need to move your units far away -- just leave outside border and you seem to be safe.)

(Btw, I really like this worldspell. I almost never use it, but I think of it as an option of last resort. Sort of like nuclear weapons.)

I posted a suggestion to make it not murder your economy: instead of getting a treant for every forest tile, each forest tile has a CHANCE to spawn a treant, but forests and ancient forests do not degrade to new forests.

My most aggressive games are playing as the Ljolsalfar and using their world spell. I use this to conquer any neighboring enemy. Generally if I start near someone, I'll build my second and third cities crowded up next to them to allow my Assault Treants to engage their capital. Also the world spell is useful for killing off Acheron if he shows up anywhere nearby.

Another nice bonus of the world spell is waiting to use it until you have the trade technology and demanding a tech from every single opponent, they will always say yes because they fear the treant hordes.

Personally, I thought the ljos world spell was weak until my last game. The AI DOWed on me and attacked with about 50 treants from the forests just a few tiles from my capital.

Do you have any idea what strength 10 trants can do when facing warriors?

Now this was regular FF but unless they are radically weaker here there is no reason to buff them any more.

they won't get buffed :)

The proposed change puts the treants to sleep when you cast the spell, so if you play on a large map you don't have to tell 100+ treants that cannot a reach an enemy within 5 turns to fortify when you cast the spell.

For micro purposes it's a good idea.

Powerwise the worldspell is just right.

To sleep yes, to get the +25% from fortify no.
