LK134 - Native Americans, Donut map, Monarchy

A quiet turnset, so not a very inspiring report.

Mo Tzu was born in Washington. I put him to sleep to save him for a Golden Age. It was that or using him as a specialist so I think he's of best use to us for a GA.

Gandhi finished the Statue of Liberty, so we got some 1300 gold to finance our research for a while. I researched Chemistry and Steel, Steam Power is 4 turns away.

BTW, Bede, why were you building Customs Houses in some cities? They only give bonuses for intercontinental trade routes and we're all on the same donut.

:dunno: :splat:

And thzt about sums it up.

New Updates
I forget who mentioned custom houses being useless on this map. We still have one in Atlanta. Can we please cancel it?

We still need to spread Taoism. Most of our cities are lacking it.

The lack of whipping while we could really shows. IMHO it is pitiful that our double shrine city still lacks a grocer and bank. We are making $25/turn from the shrines despite not pushing Taoism.

I don't understand why Mound City has two farms when it is at +5 food without them. This city is dying due to lack of shields, and those tiles should be workshops.

Out soldier demographic isn't bad at number 3, but I will like more then one town building troops. We still have the nearby SoD, and lousy relationships.

I swap Poverty Point to bank. Our double shrine city should finish income multipliers first.

We really need some AI-AI wars. I am sick of the stack from Charlemagne sitting next to us.

1690 AD
With Washington being our number one shield city I build Iron Works there despite it having National Epic.
(IT) Our relationship with Ramesses gets worse as I refuse to give him replaceable parts.

1706 AD
We start another golden age.

New Updates
There isn't much to report. I started laying down railroads, built some more workers, and a little bit of military. We still need to spread Taoism (I added one city).

So far this is looking like space (high probability), or late domination (low probability). We don't seem to have the needed production to build enough to go on the offensive.

Got it and it's in the queue for tonight.

Let's see what we can do about the production issues.

Lots of economy boosters built (markets, grocers and banks). We still need two more banks for Wall Street.

Washington finished the Ironworks. After Military Tradition and Military Science I picked up Corporation but shortly after finishing the Ironworks Washington delivered another Great Scientist. I saw no better use for him than holding him for Aluminium Co, and accordingly set the research path towards Rocketry. Aluminium Company will deliver Aluminium and extra beakers at a reasonable cost, according to the Corp screen.

Picked up Scientific Method in this trade

and discovered we have no oil, and then Physics in this one

Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg

and discovered Uranium on the western border near Snaketown. There is Oil in the HRE, and off the coast of Egypt, and I think in Washington's lands, but no one has connected it.

I canceled the Defensive Pact with Sal as he reported he had too much on his hands right now and I wanted to see just what that might be. The result was an improvement in relations with Charlie. We have dropped back a little
in troop numbers vs Charlie and our espionage allocation has been too low to allow us to see his power graph. Accordingly I raised the Espionage budget and allocated more towards him and Ramses.

And Snaketown and Boston should definitely keep training military.

Joao is becoming the big dog and has learned Assembly Line but shows no signs of becoming overly aggressive.

We are pushing the happiness and health limits pretty much everywhere, and may want to consider building temples to go with all our religions. Taoism and Christianity have been spread to all our cities, and I even got Taoism into an HRE city on our border.

The railroad work is mostly complete with all the hammer locations railed and mainlines laid down between the cities. There is one line yet to be built from east to west, I think.

I have not managed a Space Race in Bts yet, so this promises to be interesting.

Trade resources for over 50 gpt.

1752 AD
Start West Point in Snaketown.

1756 AD
Trade Liberalism to Ramsess for 500 gold. Second later Charlemagne gets Railroad + 390 gold for declaring war against Egypt. Gandhi is also drawn to war as he is HRE:s vassal. Seems like Gandhi is pursuing cultural victory so hopefully this will distract him a bit. Trade Railroad to Gandhi for Biology and money.

1762 AD
Artillery comes in and I continue to Rocketry.

1766 AD
I'll stop my round earlier as we have to make a decision. Charlemagne removed defenses of Hieraconpolis and will take the city next round. We have troops nearby so we could declare war and take the city right under his nose. That would probably work for next cities as well.

Civ4ScreenShot0036.jpg

By all means seize the opportunity.

I will take a look at the game tonight to offer detailed comments.

One thought I have is we DO want to have Charlemagne hit some of the cities. We want his mega troop stack to burn down.

New Updates
Can we build Wall Street next in Poverty Point? IMHO that should have been built before the observatory, unless we didn't have enough banks at the time.

I would use the scientist for Aluminum Co. That will insure we have the aluminum needed for the space race.

As for the big issue of declaring war, the question is what are we hopping to gain? I don't see any key resources being gained.

Last necessary bank completed last turn and Observatory has 1 turn remaining.

First I was thinking that we would prevent Charlemagne becoming too powerful with Ramsess's lands. On second tought, we would have to declare on America as well and regain all that war weariness from our last war. So maybe it is better to let AI:s burn their troops and concentrate only in space race.

I was lucky to catch this, as I don't normally read the out of pocket thread. I would have preferred notice under this thread.

I stopped at turn 405 to round off the numbers again.

Washington has started the Apollo Program with the help of Aluminium Co. There's a new scientist waiting in Washington (skip turn), I think it's a no-brainer to burn him on Electricity after we get Assembly Line in 3 turns.
Poverty Point is building Wall Street.

I didn't attack Ramesses in order to let Charlemagne burn his troops. However, he easily defeated Egypt, taking some border cities and turning Ramesses into a vassal along with Roosevelt. And instead of burning up some troops, his power rating keeps rising. Charlemagne now has no less than 3 vassals on a 7-civ map.

Bad news  We have some tough times ahead. Gandhi is definetly going for culture victory and stopping him will be hard. I don't think we have any changes to ignite war between Joao and Charlemagne's group.

Can we launch to space before Joao without war?
