LK141 - The lazy Mayans

save

Arg - I really wish we didn't make this trade. I been burned several times by the tech limit, and only actively do the time of trade on a game I expect to be short. I have no idea how we will win this one, but I have no question it will be a long one.
You're probably right. Sometimes SGs make me nervously do things I wouldn't normally do :crazyeye:

To continue...

I load the save and she doesn't ask again - aww, c'mon chick! I was just playing hard to get! Should I have just gone with my gut feeling and said no? ;)

163
Instead, we get this. Not yet.

Cathy wants to trade MC for Monarchy, and will throw in Meditation. It turns out that Izzy already has MC, so I suppose it's time to trade around for alphabet as well.

166
Trade MC to Fred for Alphabet, and to Zara for Monarchy.

Civ4ScreenShot0019-1.jpg

The wanderers come across Athens, which is "relatively" unguarded, but still unobtainable. They chop the roads up and find Alex's iron. We could probably control this and grind him down, if we wanted. Aesthetics came in (although I noticed Izzy had it, and fuedalism, a few turns back, but it was close enough to finishing to keep going of course), and I used literature as a placeholder. This can be done in 4 turns at 100% if we want TGL or the epics. The capital can now whip the forge, although I didn't in case someone wanted to get it down to a 2 pop whip, otherwise it was your standard units and granaries type of affair. Frankly, I don't see us getting any headway through Sparta with those shock defenders, not right now, anyway. There's no sign of other AI armies, although Izzy is cranking, and Joao's shrine is kicking in.

New Updates
I would whip the forge in Mutal. The angry person is useless, and I really don't like Mutal defended by a single archer. I don't want an unexpected surprise. With gems and silver due so IMHO forges should be the number one priority in all cities.

I am not sure how much we gain from continuing the Greek war short-term, but 7 workers for 4 cities are good.
Now if the AI is nice enough to weaken a city for us :satan:

LKendter (on deck)
Refar
Methos
Sweetacshon
Kodii (currently playing)

Variant: The lazy Mayans
We may build exactly ONE worker. After that, we can only get workers via capture / settler kills.

Remember 15 peace (including phony wars) / 10 heavy war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.

Win target: None

Planned wars - open to discussion when the workers appear.

What are the opinions on wonders? Methos (iirc) made a good point about the SoZ, and of course TGL is great. Where will the epics go?

I don't have the game loaded, so I can't see where our high shield cities are. IIRC we don't have much in production anywhere.

Heading to bed in a few minutes, so I can't check tonight...

I'm away for the weekend, back Monday, so good luck until then.

Very little to report this time.

Little has occurred on the war front except that we successfully defeated several of his units through defense.

Alex has brought four units from Sparta to the border, so watch out for those.

In other news, Literature is now in and I began Construction.

Civ4ScreenShot0089.jpg

We received the Forge quest.

Civ4ScreenShot0088.jpg

And I was sad to see this:

Civ4ScreenShot0090.jpg

As Literature is now in, we can now build the Great Library. I ordered up a Forge in Lakamha, our only real feasible city to build it in, but there are other options. Discuss?

100 AD
 Where are all the AIs? 3 of them are at war with Greece, yet I see no sign of any of them. We are wasting our time with Greece if another AI won't weaken them some. We just don't have the production to take them out solo at this point.

130 AD
(IT) We lost 1 unit while killing 3 Greeks by Chichen.
Frederick signs peace with Greece.

145 AD
I kill the badly injured sword. This gives us a GG that I settle in Chichen. This city is production with little income, and looks like our HE city.

160 AD
(IT) Construction is complete and our super coliseum is available. There is no question we can start to grow our cities up.
The tech path isn't clear, but a free artist looks tasty. I start research on music, and hope the artist becomes a GA to get us going.

220 AD
(IT) Cathy declares war on Zara. This causes Zara to sign peace with Alexander just as I saw Zara finally sending troops toward Greece.

=======================

New Updates
I looked at the Great Library, but IMHO we just don't have the shields. If we had marble it might have been worth trying.

Heroic Epic due in 10 turn in Chichen. After that we can hopefully pump troops fast enough so that Methos can get offensive vs. Greece. I did get a few catapults chopped out.

Since only Cathy even wants literature I think we are locked to get the free artist from music. A GA to push troops faster sounds really nice.

Uh... My CIV-able Computer refuses to start up with no apparent reason so far :(
I will not be able to take a closer look at the possible cause till later today, and - unless the problem just goes away - i don't have time to fix it untill at least Sunday.

While i can follow the discussion, as of now i can't say when (if) i will be able to play my turns within a reasonable time frame.
Hence i would suggest a skip.

Update... I took a closer look at my computer but it does not look good. Nothing obvious / easy to fix came up, while it refuses even too start up from a boot-able recovery disk.
Perhaps some kind of hardware malfunction  I wish those "beep"-s were easier to understand

I will take the thing apart in the weekend and hopefully find out which part of it died. But for now i seem to be out of rotation untill further notice... Sorry :(

Saturday is past - any updates.

New Updates
Sorry. I put so much off due to my midterm I'm having trouble catching up on everything. Just go ahead and skip me. I apologize.

OK, this now gets ugly. Kodii just played before me. I won't skip to him again. Therefore I have no choice but to put this on hold until such time that either Refar, Methos or Sweetacshon can play.

Just so this isn't forgotten about.

OK, I am back and can take one probably tomorrow. Hopefully I'll remember what was going on. :)

Sparta falls. :hatsoff: to Izzy who did all the hard work with her phantom troops that I'm yet to see.

201 415AD
And there are Izzy's cats. I wonder if we can beat her to Athens? Without a healer in the stack, it could be tough :nono: Alex is sending quite a few phalanx and swords thru Joao's land toward Fred... or us.
Spoiler :

203 445AD
Music is in, and I want to trade for currency and calendar, but both are a little expensive to trade, so I'll put a turn into currency and see what happens The GA has begun!

205 475AD
A GS is born.

206 490AD
Traded aesthetics for currency and calendar with Zara and Izzy.

207 505AD
Izzy prebombs Athens for us. She really is a sweet girl

208
...unusually quiet. Why is Alex sending his troops away from the attack zone? He's gone crazy. :crazyeye:

Athens is ours, with the loss of 2 cats, at fair odds, too  The south is safe now, and we could easily finish Alex off with what we've got, and with reinforcements from the HE. :D He doesn't have much to give us, so we may as well, unless someone has another plan? Techs are still up in the air, and I was pushing for philo. Tao isn't taken yet, Cathy and Joao have vassalage, and he certainly has CS, although I don't know if she has it. In any case, we might be in with a shot for liberalism.
Civ4ScreenShot0028-2.jpg

edit: I stupidly left the GS sitting in the capital. He'll bulb compass, which of course we don't want.

I am glad to see we finally have an AI helping us. I've been hoping for this for awhile when Greece had three enemies.

The GA has begun!
I am glad to hear it. IMHO we are behind the curve with buildings.

I will check it out tonight when I get home, but my gut feeling says kill Greece. At least some of the tiles should already be developed for us, and I hope we find a few more workers in the wreckage.

I agree, plus, we'll need those workers in his final city.
