LK63 - Age of Discovery. Emperor

1570 AD
This is looking better - we are at 2,062 in culture gaining 23/turn. Our top rival for culture is Portugal at 1,393! No Civ is close in the VP category.

1571 AD
I have to sacrifice one worker just to find out the sound effects. ;)
(IT) The Aztecs sacrifice some military, but we don't get any potential sacrifices.
Spain demands $24 and gets it. I think our win is beating up the Aztecs without side shows.

1572 AD
The Aztecs add 2 more workers to our potential sacrifice pile. :D
The bad news is that settler snuck around our troops.
We donate $114 to the Inca, and the send some sacrifices our way.

1573 AD
It cost 2 JT, but the new Aztec town is razed to the ground gaining one sacrifice.
(IT) A JT with just 2 hp left survives 2 attacks, and gains more sacrificial victims.

1574 AD
(IT) I really don't want distractions, so Portugal gets a $21 screw off contribution.

1577 AD
(IT) On the other hand Mr. Iroquois - bite me. We are now at war with the Iroquois.

1578 AD
A JT goes elite, but no sacrifice.

1579 AD
We get 3 victories and gain one sacrifice.

Summary:
We are up to 2,732 in culture.

Sell the world map for some change while checking everyone out. Not sure why I did this since it is :hammer: Aztecs all day, every day.

Kills: 5 Quetzel Bowmen, 1 Aztec Med Infantry, 1 Iro Med Inf, 1 Mounted Warrior + 1 retreated, 1Iroquois spear.
Losses: 2 Vet JT's
Promotions: 1 Elite
captures: 2
sacrifices: 3

Key events:

1582 The English start Luther's 95.

1583 William gets 28g to leave us alone with the Aztecs.

1586 Inca complete the Temple of the Sun.

1587Complete a settler for a forward barrack. The Iroquois arrive.

1588 Have to shift some JT's to the mountain SW of Tenoc. Monty though he would try that path.

There is an Iro boat off the coast of Chichen. I have a vet and a 3hp elite near there for defense. The Incas have one slave for sale now.

Culture: 3082 @ 23cpt.....40 turns to cultural victory. Every slave saves us 2 turns. Five more sacrifices will prevent me from playing another turn so go get them!

Hammer until the end.

Make that 10 and I don't have another turn. :crazyeye:

IHT - Buy the Incan Worker for 115g.

IT: Enslave a Mounted Warrior. Iroquois Galley ignores our capital and sails off towards Cuba. Enslave an Aztec Bowman. Madrid builds Shakespeare's.

1591 (1): Cycle the JTs. Buy a worker from Spain for 130g.

IT: Enslave a Mounted Warrior. Iro. Curragh sails around aimlessly. A pretty respectable Iroquois SoD shows up:

1592 (2): Reinforce the mountain near the SoD.

IT: !!!!!!!!!
lk63medinf.jpg

I find out the hard way that Medieval Infantry are Amphibious in this game! Wow - on my first turn that Curragh was within range of Chichen Itza, which at that time was only defended by a sole spearman! That would have been a disaster, as all of our precious cultural buildings (including the sacrifice-doubling Altar) would have been destroyed!!!

It's a good thing we've avoided war with the Europeans - they would have annihilated us amphibiously before we would have even had a chance to counter-attack.

1593 (3): I mm Copan to produce 10 spt (and thus a Jav in 3). It is -1fpt now, but since it has 10 food in the box we can get 3 javs before we have to switch back to a grassland tile and 0 growth:

Attack the Iroquios SoD, enslaving a Spear.

IT: Enslave an archer, but 4 Q. Bowmen slaughter 3 Javs and we lose 2 of our sacrifices . Redlined Iroquois Med Inf attacks again from the Sea, and loses.

1594 (4): Enslave a Q Bowman. Check Diplomacy, and thanfully the Aztecs didn;t sacrfice those 2 captured Workers. Well, that's the game then. I make Peace with them, gaining 4 Sacrificial Victims, Ball Games, WM, Medieval Combat, and RoP (to allow us easier worker/ jav evac) for WM + 30g. The RoP will also allow us to fight the Iroquois more easily.

I buy a worker from France for 85g + WM + 3gpt.

1595 (5): Enslave an Iro Archer.

IT: Aztecs build the Temple of Kukulcan (3 content faces, half upgrade costs, 8cpt) in Teotihuacan.

1596 (6): Enslave 3 Iro Archers.

IT: Amsterdam completes Luther's 95 (two content faces in all cont. cities).

1597 (7): Enslave an Iro Longbow. Buy a Spainish worker for 65g + 3gpt.

IT: Enslave another Longbow on D.

1598 (8): Buy a worker from Spain for 10g + WM + 6gpt. Note that Portugal is the VP leader, at 16,180/35,000. No problem there.

IT: Aztec city of Tlaxcala completes Temple of the Moon (+2 free civ advances, 8cpt).

1599 (9): Not much happening. Iro move a longbow next to an Elite.

1600 (10): Elite attacks and wins, no leader or worker. I move 16 sacrificial victims into Chichen Itza. I've been saving them up during my turns - I want a bloodbath of epic proportions to end this game.

1601 (11): I delay the inevitable for another turn in order to get the last two sacrificial victims to the altar. We're now at 3,415 culture.

1602 (12): Our Glorious Javelin Throwers annihilate an Iroquois Settler/Spear pair, netting 3 sacrifices. However, they will not be able to make it in time to Chichen Itza for the Great Bloodening, so they partake in a smaller ceremony at Yaxchilan, expanding its cultural domain in the process:

THE GREAT BLOODENING

lk63end.jpg

lk63end2.jpg

Good game all - though it was too easy for my liking. For some reason I thought we'd be battling Conquistadors and cowering in fear of Frigates. Ah well.

I netted 21 Sacrificial victims on my turn - that's 840 culture right there  . I hope no one minds that I took a couple of extra turns to finish this one off - the lure of the Great Bloodening was too great.

The save - note that's it at the beginning of 1602. All you have to do to win is sacrifice all of those workers and hit enter.

[dance] Another win for the LK series

Good game all - though it was too easy for my liking.
I must agree there. My brain is already thinking about variants, but with AoD being the next RBC series I am not doing anything more with AoD at the moment.

The AoD scenario is indeed quite easy for a human player, I suspect the AI does not really know about worker sacrifices, and if the play as europeans, then we all know how good the AI is at producing needed infrastructure.....

Good game anyway, it is a score to try and beat :) :hammer:
