Sorry for no turn log

Turns will be posted tomorrow, I just wanted to take care of this tonight while I had a little time.

These games will stay on the 1.15 patch. I am still sorting of the details, but 1.20 has some serious incompatibilities issues with older versions. At this time I am waiting to fully understand the 1.20 issues before committing to upgrades. If I read correctly on-going games can't be loaded into 1.20.

DON'T PATCH!

*pre-turn*
Beginning to MM the Netherlands, it seems we will be turning Antwerp into a worker/settler factory from here on out. I notice lots of other cities can do a lot more shield busting if we can focus our workers on mining quickly, hopefully our extra fast workers can get those mines done before the GA ends.
Switch Antwerp to Colonist
Switch Amsterdam to Temple (and rush it.)
Switch Bordeaux to Bank
Switch Lyons to Trebuchet (we are going to need many cannons)

ib- Trade maps w/ Maya for a little :smoke: money
*Amsterdam Temple--Brax
*Lyons Trebuchet--Musketeer
*Marseilles MI--MI
*Ville Marie Walls--Colonial Capital

turn 1, 1541 ad...
Rush Temple in Louisburg so we keep our hold on the tobacco. I decide to then load up a colonist and head it towards Louisana (and more whacky tobaccy). Shift some workers and try to get them working properly as best I can. Also, our explorer begins a long treck towards the Congo.
Trade Port. WM for their WM+16 gp
I then go to trade w/ Spain and notice we have no horses... that's new. I decide knights are good, but not necessary when the war takes place over about 8 by 8 tiles of squares
Trade Nethers WM for their WM+17 gp
Trade England Tobacco for WM, 6 gpt and 5 gp
Get 30+ gp from natives, whoa, since when do the Iroquis reach the Middle Ages in this game  ?

ib- Spanish ships sail on by, damned uber supply of treasures...
*Edinburgh Carrack--Frigate
*Louisburg Temple--Harbor
Maya begin building Temple of Kukulcan

turn 2, 1542 ad...
Drop the colonist and musket off in South America (apparently there's more tobacco here too). Then I go on with more exploring of Africa.

ib- lots more Spanish ships, lots more Spanish treasure.

turn 3, 1543 ad...
Founded St. Louis--Temple
next to Port.'s Saint Helena in SA, has potential but will always be a simple port outpost for us. Once again, I search more Africa (natives are more compacted up here).
Knock science on slider down 10%, we're getting so much booty that we can all afford a meal at JacqueDonald's.

ib- Explorer is mutilated in Africa, whoops. Spanish settlers everywhere in NA.
*Antwerp Colonist--Worker
*Brussels MI--MI
*Brest Aqueduct--Musketeer
We produce a Tobacco Treasure!

turn 4, 1544 ad...
Rush carrack to Ville Marie. Then, I rush a temple in St. Louis (kinda catchy).
 Portugese capital is on a 1 tile island, and it has 6 population! God I love this game!

ib-
*Marseilles MI--MI
*Bordeaux (Explorer produced) Bank--Musketeer
*St. Louis Temple--Worker
Amsterdam culturally expands.

turn 5, 1545 ad...
Nadda. I really think we can take Madrid and Barcelona soon though.

ib- Trade WM w/ Spain and I get their WM and 16 gp
learn Metallurgy, begin Mining
*Lyons Musketeer--MI
Louisburg culturally expands.

turn 6, 1546 ad...
Unload our forces onto Louisana... Hazaa!

ib- Mayan forces are acting very suspiciously, many JT's are moving around our borders. Oh great, they're annoyed w/ us. It seems war is on the horizon...Hazaa!
England will take Metallurgy for Piracy, 25gpt, WM and 80 gp... not enough at monopoly prices!
*Havana Sugar Plantation--Brax

turn 7, 1547 ad...
Since I am 68.5% sure we're going to war w/ Mayans, I establish an embassy w/ Aztecs to help in future wars. It seems their capital (right next to Mayan borders) is building a wonder. Now, isn't that perfect?
Rush a pike (reg) in Louisburg.
Founded Guyanne --Tobacco Plantation
Upgrade all our Trebs to Cannons. Move science up, Mining in 5 at +4.

ib- Mayans draw closer and are now a space away from attacking.
Havana produces 2 treasures! Man do I wish explorers could pick those babies up!
*Brussels MI--Temple
*Paris Bank--Musket
*Edinburgh Frig--Frig
*Louisburg Pike--Brax

turn 8, 1548 ad...
England now has fortification, there is a two-fer here, but our monopoly on metallurgy is still far too great to trade yet (until we wage war on Spain). Send a Carrack home w/ treasure.

ib- Mayans... back off and leave our borders. They are now focused on our gem mountain to the direct west.
*Antwerp Worker--Settler (to get rid of population quicker)
*Lyons MI--MI
*Marseilles MI--MI
*Brest Musketeer--MI
St. Louis culturally expands.

turn 9, 1549 ad...
Unload a new explorer onto Africa, hopefully to uncover the last of the "dark continent's" secrets. Upgrade a caravel and unload a colonist in Ville Marie to establish a nice city that takes away saltpeter and iron from the Iroquis. Disband a worthless explorer in Guyanne for a pitiful 5 shields.

ib- Netherlands wants to renew peace treaty, fine.
Mayans are now on our land again, we should rush the brax this time. And finally, the GA ends, man look at those negative figures. Ouch.
*Bordeaux Musketeer--MI

turn 10, 1550 ad...
Load musketeer to pick up 1 treasure from Caribbean. I then alter the slider to make positive cash, Mining in 4 at +2 (157 gp in the bank). Our military is FINALLY average compared to Spain, it's CLOBBERIN' TIME... but not for me :) I'm usually the warmonger, but this time I want somebody else to jump the gun for me. Good luck on taking out the Spanish, just don't forget to work on some more cannons (and PLZ get England to MA vs. Spain, I would offer our Metallurgy for their 2 techs)!

Here's a pic for any lurkers out there wanting to know what our holdings in the Americas look like. Nothing special, but it should look much larger once the war w/ Spain (and perhaps Maya) is/are over.

EDIT: nvm, got it. Oh, and the Maya are at war with Portugal, not planning to sneak attack us -- look at your screenshot.

(IT) --

The successor to King Cizzlewalk of France, blessed be his name in heaven, Queen Cuivienen, is wroth with the insipid Spanish to the south. The Spanish are the only threat to French dominance in the New World, and besides, Queen Isabella's eyebrows are crooked. These issues must be attended to immediately -- despite peacemaking operations attempted by the Pope, France declares war and invades Spain in 1550 AD. In the New World, a French Medieval Infantry slays a Spanish Longbowman, and a Spanish worker is enslaved on the Continent and French troops approach Barcelona.

The English people would give Queen Cuivienen 50 gold and 49 gold every ten years as well as betray their Spanish allies simply for our knowledge of Metallurgy. Indeed, we will grant you the right to betray the foolish Spaniards!

(1) --

The insidious Spanish and their speedy Conquistadors captured the colony of Guyanne and nearly captured the Continental city of Bordeaux. We must account for Spanish speed in our war. A Spanish Frigate also sank one of our Carracks near their coast.

Nonetheless, the French retaliation is harsh, and the city of Barcelona is ours with the loss of only a single MDI. There is much rejoicing in Paris and in the colonies. Queen Cuivienen declares a holiday in commeration of the fall of Spain, even though the Spanish are far from defeated. In less happy news, Guyanne is defended by not one, but two Conquistadors, and so we slow-moving French will not retake the colony until a year from now. In addition, the people of Barcelona are not happy at all about Queen Cuivienen's rash declaration, and have established a strong resistance consisiting of 9/11ths of Barcelona's population.

(2) --

The French troops prepare to launch an attack on Madrid, the Spanish capital and pinnacle of their glory. Guyanne falls to a French MDI and the colony is once again ours. The Spanish also fail to capture Portuguese Saint Helena in Brazil.

(3) --

The Spanish have failed miserably in an attempt to recapture Barcelona! Queen Cuivienen inaugurates a new festival in honor of French victories in Spain. Unfortunately, the people of Barcelona are still upset that they are under French rule. Queen Cuivienen is puzzled -- is it not better to be French than to be Spanish? Certainly Spanish propaganda must have turned the heads of the people of Barcelona. No matter. Queen Isabella is as good as dead already, anyway.

Also unfortunately, the French navy is not nearly so strong as her army -- the Spanish sink multiple French Carracks and a Frigate with a lone Carrack.

An MDI carrying treasure brings great riches to Paris, then goes off to fight in Spain. In Spain, despite Spanish ideas otherwise, the glorious French army has captured the capital city of Madrid -- and Leonardo's Workshop! Unfortunately, Queen Isabella escaped, and has reestablished the Spanish monarchy in Seville. We will drive you from the Continent, Isabella!

(4) --

With the French conquest of Oporto come Horses to the land of France. We can now mount our people as Knights. The cities of Continental France immediately switch to this more effective form of fighter.

Sault Ste. Marie founded inland from Ville Marie -- this "Marie" must get around.

(5) --

Not much to say. Forces gather around Lisbon.

(6) --

The Spanish really just fell apart. No counterattacks, nothing. We take Lisbon and Dias's Voyage with only one MDI lost.

In the New World, the French drive the Spanish from Santo Domingo in southern Florida. the Spanish colony of Hispaniola is now isolated and is grave danger.

I switch Ville Marie to a Courthouse, as Corruption is crippling its shield output, and I'd rather get 6 spt than 2 from it.

(7) --

The Iroquois declare war on England. Say good-bye to England's New World colonies. Mwahahaha!

In Spain, an RNG miracle gives us Seville and Magellan's Voyage. The new Spanish capital is the Canary Islands. Only Granada remains in Europe. In the New World, the Spanish have been driven from Hispaniola, and the French now occupy all Spanish colonies in the New World excepting only a few insignificancies.

(8) --

We capture Granada. The Spanish will now give us every city they control except Cagliari and their capital for Peace -- but that would betray our British allies. We will wait.

I have no more time right now, as I must begin CVN1 and then do other things of importance, but I think this is a good punctuation to my reign, anyway. Sorry about leaving two extra turns -- think of it as a gift ;) Also, I know I slowly slipped out of character -- I'm no good at RP anyway.

Ouch! We need those ships to get those yummy treasures home.

I can't agree more - we may still need our rep, plus it was cost us $49/turn that England is sending our way.

i'll post a got it, but i won't play until Sunday aft/eve, computer problems (cpu melted)

but i'll look tomorrow on this laptop and maybe post some thoughts and a plan before i play

I took a look at the game, and we are paper thin on military overseas. Havana has **3** treasure units and ***zero*** military. With MI having amphibious we can't afford to lose our most critical city. I would suggest an every other turn military rush even if they are regulars.

With Spain smacked down the only way to lose is not to maximize treasure and Havana is our key treasure point.

As for the location of the Colonial Capitol - This is the fp. With patch 1.15 location isn't that valueable as it no longer creates a true 2nd core. With only 150 turns in the game, I saw 20+ turns earlier as more valueable for the OCN boast.

ok will action that, just taken a quick look, i notice we can trade away metallurgy and some luxs / iron to Portugal for 65gpt and 280 gold, i don't see them as a threat being 10000 points behind, not yet anyway and we could use the cash, any objections?

and if so and if we then have enough to rush units and buy a tech, would fortification or piracy be the order of the day (i say piracy but maybe wait for the price to drop and get military out first)

final point / question, i assume that due to these statements
4) Even if not covered under exploits listed, please try not to use tactics that take advantage of holes in the game design.

I would suggest an every other turn military rush

means no rushing workers, and then changing to a military type and re-rushing, i will assume it's not allowed if i don't hear an answer before i play

means no rushing workers, and then changing to a military type and re-rushing, i will assume it's not allowed if i don't hear an answer before i play

That is a perfect valid tactic. Of course, with our gold level we can't do much of that. This is to cover things such as the AI yo-yo where you get large stacks of AI troops to bounce be and forth forever going for the closer empty town, etc.

ok, off we go

we are the proud owner of 26 cities
play around with lux, science, entertainers and after looking at the trading screen decide to reduce science to 0 for the cash rushes

we have a total of 8 treasures floating around in one form or another

trade metallurgy, wines, dyes and tobacco to the Portuguese but keep the iron for WM, 53 GPT and 280 gold, trade wm around for some extra cash

Is Portugal still fighting anyone? If so, and they die, our trading rep may be trashed. It is generally not a good thing to trade goods to a civ that might not last 20 turns.

================================

It does look like our military situation has improved a lot in the new world. :D

Portugal has enough territory in Africa to survive indefinetely. Remember who they are fighting -- Spain and the Netherlands, both of whom are reduced to practically nothing, the Maya, who, while strong, have no power overseas, the English, who are too far away from Africa to do much harm and still at war with Spain and the Iroquois. Not sure who else they are at war with, but no one dangerous, certainly.

once bitten, twice shy, had a personal epic game made harder by a civ dying out :(, portugal are safe thank goodness

I forgot to check the CP's of Maya etc but I don't think they are anywhere near 4000cps

good luck LK you may even be able to wrap it up

Portugal has enough territory in Africa to survive indefinetely.

It isn't simply a question of surviving - with goods going to them we need to keep a valid trade route. Inland cities in Africa won't have a valid trade route.

===================

I think this is ten turns so I'll stop here
Check F8 and it will tell you the turn number. I suspect you came up a turn short.

If absolutely necessary--or even just for fun--we could use MDIs (vie Amphibious Assault) to raze Chichen Itza. Not difficult at all, and I doubt the Mayans are smart enough to have a large defensive force in the city.

1568 AD
At the moment I really don't see any threat for us not to win. The best city for culture is Maya at 1,290 and we are almost double the beaten down Spanish for VP. With how much treasure is worth this one is won.

1569 AD
(IT) Maya and England ally vs. Portugal

1574 AD
(IT) Aztecs and England ally vs. the Iroquois.

1575 AD
More treasures arrive in Paris, and we are at 26,670 VP.
I buy fortification for $690 from Spain.
(I) The Maya complete the Temples of the Sun - to little culture, to late. :D

1576 AD
(IT) The temples continue to complete, as the Inca build the Temple of the Moon.

1577 AD
(IT) The Colonial Capital finally comes on-line.

Summary:
We need 9 treasures to come home to win, and 9 are on ships by Ville Marie. The game ends during Cizzlewalk's reign.
