preturn: I switch Gutenburg's Bible to Leonard's Workshop. 5 more turns, but I certainly would trade 1 happy face for 2 advances plus 50% more scientific. In this mod with so many luxes and higher pop 1 happy face is just not as big as in the regular game.

I also switch Encyclopedia to Gutenburg's Bible for now, and might switch to better wonders later. We are the tech lead and there is no need to get a Middle Age Great Library.

I switch two small front towns to walls instead of building regular spearmen, and rush for less than 200g.

I think I would try to capture those Egyptian towns and let Carthage fight it for us. We have 12 elephants and 3 cavaliers, might be enough? And start a GA?

We are shipping Elephant to Egypt - I'll not renew it when it expires.

Or we want to fight Zulu? It's all about jungles.

IBT FP city builds cav and I start a wind mill. We need more production. AI start Bible.

(1)560AD: I don't know why we irrigated the hill instead of plains in a corrupt city.

And we still haven't upgraded peasants to laborers..maybe they are just far away from rax.

I send elephants to the front and stop roading around those jungles.

I rush courthouse in Etchmara. Will start a rax.

(2)570AD: Physics to America to renew furs.

I cancle some colonist builds and focus on infra.

Move elephant to the west.

I short-rush Aqueduct in Zeila to let it grow by about 500g.

One problem is that even our first ring cities are shield poor. Not much I can do. But they shouldn't be building workers. I switch to infra. We need to mine those jungles. Switch farther cities to laborers.

(3)580AD: I just find that Zala-Bet-Makada has maxed out in pop but tiles are optomized for food. Switch to high shield and get 5spt instead of 3. Set to Aqueduct. I guess I need to recall all our workers back to the core. Our core is really poorly developed!

(4)590AD: AI have Metallurgy and Mercantilism (which we'll get next turn anyway). Absolutism gets us Metallurgy from America. We still have monopoly on Humanism.

I buy Mercantilism from Carthage by 11g. Cheaper than 10% research. I shut off research this turn as Leonard's is due next turn.

What techs to pick? The most expensive ones are Newtonian and Economics, so I'd take them. Theory of Warfare would enable Cuirassier which is 6/2/3, but we don't need the extra movement so badly yet.

I rush a rax.

IBT Leonard's ->Heroic Epic in 4 turns. We want some leaders. Adulis starts knight in 3 turns - it could be upgraded to Cuirassier which we'll have shortly. America builds Silk Road.

(5)600AD: Sell Newtonian Synthesis to Carthage for 1364g. Sell to Egypt for 544g (almost full price and I didn't take 3gpt extra).

Our incense deal with Zulu just expired, and I don't renew yet. We should wait for the saltpeter deal to expire in 11 turns and renew it with incense. According to civilopedia incense is needed to build certain things that I don't forsee we'll build in next 11 turns (mostly happyness wonders and improvements). And we may get it from Egypt anyways.

ToW in 3 turns with -35gpt.

We have so much gold that I rush things a bit.

(6)610AD: switch Adulis to Arena as it will have happiness problem once it grows.

(7)620AD: I rush two knights so we could upgrade next turn. Egypt completes Great Lighthouse.

(8)630AD: interesting..our rush didn't work as they were all switched to the new unit..I switch them to Aqueduct instead. I do upgrade the existing two knights.

Leadership in 4 turns at -2gpt.

(9)640AD: Heroic Epic -> Philosopher's School.

I declare on Egypt. We kill two spearmen and raze Babylon. We gain 4 slaves. :D We kill two spearmen and capture Edfu (size-1).

Capture some workers too.

We ship dyes+wine to Carthage for MA and get 34g as change. I then ship Newtonian to Zulu for an MA too. America gets Map Making for it. I leave Germany there as it's backward and maybe we can get some war happiness from it.

IBT no counterattack. Two Egyptian horse archers are killed by our allies.

(10)650AD: our stack move to Ur for the incense and tea. I'm sending a colonist along, if you want to raze it, but I think we can capture Ur and use the colonist to claim the rubble.

Another stack moves to Buto. The third moves to Lisht.

I am advancing carefully as I use Javs to cover them (except for one stack), hoping to trigger our GA. I suggest we capture those small towns instead of razing, as colonists are expensive and we may not get many slaves from those small towns anyway. But if you are afraid that Carthage takes Ur faster, you can move the faster units this turn, although I don't think that would happen.

I hope next player can get us an GA. Maybe a leader - which we could use to rush Summer Palace. Don't worry about armies - there are small wonders (Military Acadamy? We'll be able to build it in 2 turns) later that can generate armies by their own and we'd surely get 3 when Pentagon comes. But the odds are not high although we have Heroic Epic - we don't have any elite and I certainly don't expect Egypt to send any troops to us.

We may sign RoP with Zulu to let its troops move faster.

Architecture also shows up and I leave the trade to next player.

On the Bible is due in 6 turns and most probably we'll get it.

We gain 4 slaves.
Don't forget slaves can be upgraded. ;)

This is still moving along at a good clip as I didn't even get a chance to look at 550AD and 650AD is complete.

FYI - Of course the mod had to get patch to 1.02. I couldn't tell from the post exactly what changed. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see a post with what the next features are. Based on the 15Meg download I know there are some new animations.

Expect the next round of RaR to be on 1.02. Base on how easy this on is, the next one will be at Deity.

I would be glad to play this on deity.

I haven't tried it myself, but I imagine it would be much easier to keep up? There are two Great Library-like wonders in this mod which span two ages, and Literature is even less likely to be researched. You need a library to be able to build Great Library, which is a 2-side sword, as prebuild isn't going to work, but AI is also not able to cascade to it, or to even start on it either. So if we prepare a good-shield city we'll most certainly get it I predict.

Also with so many techs it's quite easy to get a monopoly and keep up with the pace..

It was really easy to get the GLib in DyP; in RaR, the problem is that you have to research an entire, pretty useless branch to Literature. If the AI ignores that branch, the GLib is almost guaranteed. If an AI Civ heads for it, loosing the race is guaranteed as well.
In general, RaR on Deity is easier in the late game. However, it can be much tougher early on; if the AI attacks you very early, you won't survive until you play a MIL Civ. I don't think we would have survived the early wars in DocT5 with a non-MIL Civ (with Champions, it wasn't too hard).
And, if you start next to 2 AGR Civs, you feel outexpanded like in regular Sid, if not more.
OTOH, RaR offers much more choices when you're lacking critical resources (even without any, you can build a decent attacker; 4.1.3). An Archipelago map alone on a landmass should be won by any experienced player.

650 AD
The Philosopher's school is specific to democracy. I don't know what happens with it when you leave democracy, so I swap it off to a guildhall for more production and revenue.

I swap Matara to Smith's. This is even MORE powerful in RaR as there are more economy buildings.

I switch several cities with high corruption to courthouses.

What is bad is we haven't completed summer palace, yet I can't find a city with decent shields to build it.

660 AD
We get a leader.
We pick up 2 more workers by killing a colonist. I don't understand why an Egypt worker simply died.

The city of Degum is formed. I don't think we will build much in the way religious buildings, but having a source of incense doesn't hurt.

Ur holds as our Elephant retreats from a cannon.

I find units that haven't been upgraded to laborer. I will try to get them all done my turn. With speed 2 a laborer is more then worth the cost.

Normally I hate capturing AI cities due to the flip risk. However, thanks to all the free shrines we are number one in culture. I capture Lisht from Egypt with $5 and 4 workers.
(IT) Germany and Egypt ally vs. Carthage.
The next research project is Flintlock.
Zeila is our 3rd best shield city and it starts the Summer Palace due in 11 turns.

670 AD
Buto is captured for $2 and a worker.

I sell Carthage Olive Oil for wm and $150.
I kill a unit in Pithom and gain a slave.

690 AD
The International Port (offshore platform, bazaar, and harbor effects) is rushed in Gabaza.

A demonic Pikeman stops our assault on Ur.
I sell Humanism to the Zulu for Architecture, wm, $320 and $4/turn.

I am starting to feel a bit stretched as we have to go to many directions to fight Egypt.
(IT) One unit dies, but Lisht holds.

700 AD
Working toward the next round of attacks.

710 AD
We just got hit was a major round of war weariness. Luxuries taxes jump to 30%.

I don't know what type of mega-demonic pikemen Egypt has employed, but Ur holds yet again.
(IT) The next research project is Cavalry tactics to let us leave the Middle Ages.

730 AD
(IT) Egypt and America sign a peace treaty.

740 AD
In desperation I attack Ur with a Javelineer as it was holding with a 1 HP unit. I win and the cursed Ur is finally in our hands. We start our GA
(IT) The RnG likes us and Edfu holds.
The capitol can pump a Cavalier a turn during the GA. That will start rebuilding our military fast.

750 AD
The troops start shifting toward Pithom. This is the last city that really makes sense to take from Egypt.

I upgrade 3 pikemen to muskets.

==========================

Summary:
Gabaza should turn into a shield powerhouse. Please kept is on pure buildings. I am trying to get all the production boasters into the city at this time.

One thing that really sucked with this war is we lost most of our elephant riders. I really liked their abilities to build roads fast. I burned up most of our offensive military in this disaster of a war
We must push heavy military when the current buildings complete. We have the research lead locked, and I think cash would better be used to upgrade units. We really don't want to be rated weak vs. other civs.

Pithom has several horse archers! We will need a large force with decent defenders to protect it before attacking

You didn't rush Summer Palace? I would have done that instead of having the I-Port. Zeila is too close to the core. Even if you thought Summer Palace is too cheap, I would have rushed Military Acadamy which could generate armies automatically.

Great news to have a GA! :D It lasts 30 turns right?

And it's surprising that Egypt actually sent some forces to attack us. What is Carthage doing?

Research-wise we should beeling to High Exploitives (did I spell it right?) for railroads.

You didn't rush Summer Palace?
It was only a 100 shield wonder.

I would have rushed Military Acadamy
The capitol can complete that by hand in just 9 turns. After we can a few units from the capitol we could build the MA.

The IP would have taken an enternity to build by hand.

I agree Summer Palace is a cheap wonder, but it has big impact on our production. I would certainly rush it in a corrupt (like one of our western towns) city with good potential and make that a powerhouse instead of building it in one that's already very productive.

preflight (750ad)

Agree with Microbeabout building the Summer Palace in a corrupt city. However, it can't be rushed. Switch Zeiba to from summer palace to market.
Switch Zala-Bet-Makada from rax to Summer Palace. It will get our northern lands more productive as our FP is to the W of our capital.
There are a lot of American troops by Buto and Gula-Makada

ibt: American troops heading towards home

turn 1 (760ad)

not much. need to concentrate troops before carrying on with further attacks.
turn down research

ibt:

Enter IA. Start researching Steam Power
America is building Encyclopedia
We lost our supply of furs

turn 2 (770ad)

sell dyes and cotton to America for furs, WM, 81g
Attacked a wounded elite egyptian horse archer from Pithom, promoted a Jumbo and capured a slave.
Sending slave towards a rax for upgrade.

ibt:

Matara builds Smith's. Starts East India Company

turn 3 (780ad)

moving troops, irrigating

turn 4 (790ad)

rushed a courthouse, otherwise nothing exciting

turn 5 (800ad)

not much

turn 6 (810ad)

start troops towards Pithom

ibt:

Zulu and Carthage signed MA against Germany
Learn Steam Power. Start ToE

turn 7 (820ad)

captured Pithom and 2g and 1 worker. No losses.

turn 8 (830ad)

Buy Free Artistry and WM from Lincoln for Coffee, Olive Oil and 5g.
Switch Aksum (capital) to Shakespear's so it can grow past 15

turn 9 (840ad)

Cancelled MA's (expired last turn)
Peace with Egypt for 59g and 19gpt - they didn't have any techs and wouldn't give up a city so had to settle for $

ibt:

America and Zulu signed MA against Egypt (America just broke their rep along with the peace treaty if it wasn't already broken)
Zulu Built Gutenberg's

turn 10 (850ad)

turned down science to still get ToE in 1

Notes/questions:

I was thinking of using the bank in Zeila as prebuild for ToE (or the MA in Adulis - but there's only 1 turn on it)

Do we want to learn Federalism so we can build district courthouses and the Supreme court? I'm not sure if it's worth it in a non-cultural game.

I've worked the laborers N during my turns so they can start improving the jungle for when the Summer Palace completes.

Do we want to build a city by Degum to fill in that hole?

There were lots of civs building Gutenberg's. They probably cascaded to Encyclopedia which is still being built. I would not trade ToE until we are guaranteed to get it.

Do we expect to keep lux at 10 for the entire game? If not, I wouldn't worry about East Indian Company. :)

I also wouldn't waste shields on Shakespear - it's already industrial ages and we'll soon be able to build sewer system (spelt right?).

Now here are two questions:
1. how are we going to win this game? Domination or space race? Domination is the fastest, but this game is "exploring", so..
2. what are the ultimate gov we want to switch to? Federal Republic or the other one whose name I forget? Note they have unit support at 4gpt, plus high WW. But with superior units we should be fine.

The exploring comment simply meant an easy level to look at the mod. I see this as win by domination. We are well on the way at 22% of the world already.

I notice that most of the military is fortified in former Egypt (Lisht / Pithom). Please move it back toward the center of the empire. Having most of our offensive covering two junk cities isn't good. Fighting America or the Zulu would get ugly, and I prefer having the troops closer to the front.

I was thinking of using the bank in Zeila as pre-build for ToE (or the MA in Adulis - but there's only 1 turn on it)
The ToE is different in this game and requires a university in a city to build it. I would waste the shields in the capitol and switch to university. At 90 shields a turn this is the city to build ToE. I really couldn't care less about Shakespeare.

Our military is better, but still needs work big time. Please use our cash and upgrade the pikemen.
