Has anyone been able to load their cruise missiles on a carrier yet?

Did you read the civolopedia? I dont think it says anywhere in it that you can load cruise missiles on to carriers. You can only put cruise missiles in transports. Thats it. Cruise missiles are useless anyway so dont worry about them.

I'm basing my thought about cruise missiles and carriers on the Prima Strategy Guide (p. 164) 'Cruise missiles are most effective when launched from carriers'. Without that ability, I totally agree they are pretty useless.

I thought cruise missles were only loadable on nuclear submarines.

I also thought that they were the one bombard unit in the game with the ability to actually KILL something if it was already down on HPs. That is what I was going to use them for... Stick them in coastal cities and kill elmo's battleships that stray within range of the 5-6 artillery I have "staged" in every coastal town.

Someone please tell me if I am on drugs here... Can they kill?

They have killed enemy Infantry in the open a couple of times. You may be right about the Nuclear Subs. I have an old 'won' game of the Ringworld map that I am continuing to play in order to check out all the units and later advances, so I'll try what you say.

I've done a bit of testing and, in my 1.17g version of the game, cruise missiles only operate on the continent where they are built. Won't load on transports. However, I haven't tried to load them on a nuclear sub yet. I will have to wait for the Editor so that I can change the 'transportability' flag. The game designers may have prevented this for play balance reasons, considering the initial cost of the missile.

cruise missiles are not supposed to be transported by transports, but there is a bug in the program. you can move cruise missile to into the tranports when the transports are not in the city, just like any infantries or tanks.

Coo-well! I'll try that and also see if they'll get on to nuclear subs that way. They saved my scoring butt recently when I had no access to Rubber and the Chinese had Infantry all over the place. It took up to two cruise missiles to reduce a garrison to 1-2 hitpoints or sometimes to eliminate it all together.

hey im a PC user checkin out all the forums, but if u want to load cruises on nuke subs, you can edit the game.

1. Go into Civ3Edit.
2. Create new game.
3. Go to Rules page.
4. Go to Units tab, then go to Cruise Missile.
5. In the bottom left corner, there should be a box called Unit Abilities.
6. Select Tactical Missile.
7. Exit Civ3Edit.
8. Load up the scenario, create a new map (when the game says yada go to the game already select the other one).
9. Enjoy!!!

(HAVE FUN!!!)

All us Mac folks are eagerly awaiting our Editor so we can do just that. SSShh! Brad's still working…

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... ok. man can they cheat us anymore? ah well.... it can't be helped. lets just pray they do the editor well!!!

I am getting my money's worth. Playing some great games and getting the benefit of fan mods/maps from the Firaxis site and this one. There's something about the pleasures of delayed gratification when we get our Editor. By then, I'll probably be ready for it.

BTW, I still haven't built an AEGIS Cruiser, even in games that I've continued after the Victory Conditions have been met. And another BTW, what does AEGIS stand for?

n.

Greek Mythology. The goatskin shield or breastplate of Zeus or Athena. Athena's shield carried at its center the head of Medusa

In addition, Acronymfinder.com lists it as the Navy's phased radar array ship (true) and says that it isn't an acronym. That is my understanding as well. I am pretty sure it is just a cool name.

Wow! Thanx for the info. Just when you expect the military to be acronym-obsessing they show an understanding of myth and metaphor. I will now try to build a balanced fleet to have some late-game fun. If only I could get those cruise missiles to behave realistically…
