lock up at direct x search

ok guys, when setup enters the direct x installation it freezes up! Also, everytime I close it (with alt-crt-del), the civ4 installation box appears but the game never installs....

has anyone else had this problem? does anyone knoe how to fix it? I've waited all semester to play this game....

Download and install directx 9c from MS website and bypass directx on the CD. Maybe that will work.
