A Little Sketchy
Here's my problem: I have a 256MB Kingston DataTraveler I ("DTI") USB flash drive that won't run on my Vista 64-bit desktop or 32-bit laptop. I put it in, the computer makes the "New Hardware" sound, the light flashes, but instead of turning solid and any sort of notification appearing, the light cuts out and the drive does not register in system settings; when I check it through Device Manager I get "Code 10 - cannot start".
I know the drive works; it runs on my older XP system and on Ubuntu, so I'm guessing its driver isn't a default inclusion in Vista onward. The problem is, Windows is too dumb to find the driver online and the setup from the Kingston website won't run properly because it's a "98SE driver". I have another working USB drive eight times the size so this isn't a debilitating grievance, but if anyone knows a solution (from what I've read on other tech websites one does exist) I'd be most appreciative. Otherwise I might wire up the XP desktop and try a manual copy of the files.
