I don't think this is about friendship... this is about cultural influence.

The answer is generally that they're producing more culture per turn than you are tourism.

I didn't say anything about friendship. Anyway, Riker do you have an Ideology? Maybe that's affecting it

As far as I remember Venice had the same ideology as me, would it still effect it?

We had different religions would that effect it?

Regards.

Yep my Tourism is 14768 and there culture is 8256.

I have a suspicious feeling that's the life-time tourism and culture, and not the per turn tourism and culture.
Can you give us a screenshot of your Culture Overview's "Influence by Player"? That should clear things up...

Your right. Here are the screen shots. I am Britania and Venice is the one falling.

OK, now it makes sense! :)
Here's the thing, you are currently producing +152 Tourism per turn (as you can see at the top of the screen, next to your culture and faith, and in the Overview, where it says "Current Tourism Output:").

In regard to Venice, you reach Influential with them (so you have more lifetime tourism against them than they have lifetime culture), and have a +50% modifier in tourism against them (so you probably have a Trade Route to them and Open Borders or something like that). This means that, per turn, you are producing +228 Tourism against Venice.
However, you are also told the trend is Falling. This means that Venice increased the amount of culture they make per turn, and are now making more than +228 Culture per turn - hence your influence falling.

To turn the situation around, get more tourism by creating Great Works or by completing theming bonus in your museums and Wonders. Try to propose and be the top contributor in the International Games Project to gain a boost in Tourism for a number of turns. You can also build Hotels, Airports, the National Visitor Center, and research The Internet - all of which increase your Tourism output! :D

Hope that was helpful! :)

Thanks very much JSMCAG it does make more sense although where can I see how much more Culture Venice is making now?

They also must of been making a hell of a lot as I had all those things except the Internet you mentioned, I won the games and one other I also had most of the bonuses in my cities for art music and Writing by swapping etc.

But thanks for sorting that out for me, I think it (the game screen) could be a little clearer, but still enjoying the new incarnation :)
