For all three civs there have been at least 1 movie I wanted to watch but missed. I forget what they are though. I also has the JOMT(just 1 more turn) syndrome. I can play hours after I want to stop.
LOL, I start at 6p.m. and the just one more turn kicks in at 2 am and by 6 am I'm so googly-eyed, that I HAVE to go to bed. Not by choice, my body starts to shut down...
I wonder if someone will ever file a class action lawsuit against Firaxis because of this??? LOL "I got fired from my job and lost my house cause of civ, gimme $20,000,000"...
I've been late to work because of civ before. Its kind of scary how involved I get with the game -- its kind of like that Wendy's commercial where the guy is eating a cheeseburger while his house burns down around him.
I am the same way. I started playing one Saturday morning at 10:00am, fully planning to only play for 30 minutes, then get up show, and make a productive day, next thing I now, it 2:15! So then I figured the day was pretty muich shot, so I just played for anouth 6 hours Last night I played 5 hours, when I should have been studying for my finals next week.
Just one more turn is a horrible, horrible disease. I think there should be some form of helpline set up. Though in such a case all those who need it will be victim to that one 'last' turn and unable to use the phone.
I was playing last month, took a break to make dinner. Put the meal(pizza) in the oven and set the timer for 20 minutes. Sat down and continued my turn. Suddenly, the timer rings. I look at my roommate in confusion and ask him how long it had been since I came back into the room. He said about 5 minutes (he was also playing PTW).
Confused, I went to the kitchen to retrieve my meal. The pie was woefully undercooked. I set the timer for another 15 minutes. Sit back down. *Ding* "Dammit, I didn't even get a full turn in!!"
"How long was I back in the room this time ?"
"I dunno, 5 minutes ?"
We actually ended up placing the timer next to a clock to check to see if it was right
My worst time loss was when I promised to meet my friend at the bar at 10:00. I sat down around 9, thinking I could get a few turns in before heading out. He called at about 11:00, asking where I was. I couldn't explain my that my absence was due to a computer game...
I go to school 5 miles down the road from you at EMU.
What city are you from?
\BAck when I was younger, and playing the original Civ. I would stay uptill 5am in the summer playing. Often-times I would be so into a game, I would not realize how long I was playing until the sun came up! But, now that I have a real job AND school, I try to turn off the comp around 12:30am.
I often get completely lost. My worst experience so far is a Civ2 game a couple of years ago. I started playing at 10:00 pm and kept on going until 2:00 am. That was about two hours longer than I had planned, so, just a few turns more...
Next thing I knew, it was 5:45 am and I was in trouble! The computer is in our bedroom and the wife gets up at 6:00 am. I just couldn't let her know I'd been playing all night!
I quickly saved, turned off and got into bed before she woke up.
Luckily I didn't have to go to work until 9:00 am, so at least I got two hours of sleep...
I can't say I was exactly happy when she wanted to go to the movies the next evening! We didn't go, I'm still Civ:ing and we're still married (17 years this weekend)!
My future wife will definitely need to be able to deal w/ Civ all nighters -- sometimes they are inescapable. Superstitions about the RNG abound... "I'm winning every battle now. If I close the game, I'll lose my streak," etc.
My "city" would better be described as farmland down near the Ohio border.
I always lost time while i am playing, this is most addictive game i have ever played.
Now i have always clock in my sight and sometimes my wife wakes me to real life (but i still love her)
I came home from church one night, around 9 pm. I decided to play some Civ before I went to bed. When I saw daylight outside the window, I knew I was in trouble.
