LOTR: War of the Ring 1.0

I've been on the hunt for Civ scenarios relating to LOTR and got told about this thread (as Well as Malbeth's RotS mod which I'll be trying soon!).

<snip>

That looks like my RotS mod (which, I should note, was recently updated to prevent crashes and the like). Quasidemo's LOTR 1.0 mod only had the custom Ring and Balrog as units. Everything else was from the vanilla game.

I think some of the confusion might be that I used a lot of Quasidemo's Civilopedia entries (along with a lot of other stuff).

Uh oh.. so I've merely posted an old WIP build of your RotS mod instead of WotR? The zip file given to me was titled War of the Ring, the biqs & asset folder were too, and there was no documentation (info file is new and made by me) so I didn't even consider this a possibility! The guy who gave it to me can't remember where he got it from either.

So your Return of the Shadow mod still uses all of War of the Ring's file names and asset folders? Here's the contents of my repackaged download previous posted:

Darn I wish I'd gone on to try your RotS on the same day as WotR as then I would have questioned things more. I'll take a proper look at your mod and latest version this weekend! :)

I've removed the link in my previous post. Do you still have a copy of Quasidemo's original WotR 1.0 then? As this means it's still lost sadly.

.

Haha, yeah, that's mine! The various .biqs for different civs are the collective smoking gun. I've completely redone the mod to make it less messy, and I actually uploaded a new version a few weeks ago! So feel free to try it out.

As for the original LOTR scenario, it's 95% the same as this one here: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/lotr-war-of-the-ring-ver-0-9.105011/ The only difference was that Quasidemo added the One Ring graphic and the Balrog graphic from these forums. The rest was the same.

No worries. Darn that was a waste of time then lol! I've altered my post and removed the download. Will hopefully try your latest version of RotS this weekend! I can upload a copy to CFC too if you like? I grown every time I see a mega upload download as they never last. ModDB is another excellent option for big mod hosting, here's a quick guide on how to do it that I made recently. Vindsval took my advice and ModDB ended up promoting his work all over their site and social media pages which was cool.

I'd be more than happy if you wanted to copy it over to either CFC or ModDB. I haven't been able to find a good hosting site ever since that big one (I can't remember the exact name) everyone on here used 10+ years ago went down.

Yeah I definitely recommend ModDB, easy to use for your hosting, gets you more fans plus very reliable and not going anywhere! Unlike other hosts and come and go lol. Guessing you might be thinking of Atomic Gamers? Heaps of long lost mods were hosted there. 3D downloads was another one heaps of people used that's gone now. Funny thing is ModDB was around 10 years ago so I dunno why no Civ modders ever used it. Am working to change that lol! I'm hesitant to put a copy on there on your behalf if you're still working on it otherwise you won't be able to update the file without me. If it's an ongoing project still then it's probably better if you stick a copy there that you have full control over.

EDIT3:
Thunderfall has kindly restored Quasi's original download for us. His link in the top post will work again now and here it is again.

Just updated my previous download post back on page 1 with the working download link to Quasi's v1.0 and a new screenshot of his work instead of yours haha. The link in Quasi's original top post works again too.

One thing that puzzles me was when I tried that hybrid version you could play as the hobbits and Gandalf in the shire which was cool! However I just tried your latest Return of the shadow and that's all gone. Why did you end up removing that stuff? Kinda makes me want to keep the hybrid version as it offers something different and unique in between Quasi's version and yours!

Screen from the now removed WIP hybrid version...
