Low FPS on a huge map

Hello

I've recently been having some FPS issues on a massive scale, many civ earth map.

Currently, its at about 2 FPS.

I've tried disabling the animations, but they refuse to disable.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Disabled all but the workers. Still some low FPS. Anyway to boost my FPS?

Civ3 is 2D and I don't recall ever having animation speed issues, but on big maps with lots of civs things can really slow down on the interturn when the AI makes all of its moves.

Do you mean Civ3, and do you mean the animation speed of the units?

I mean specifically the animation of the units. Theres about 15 civs running around, and I need to disable all of their animations.

As in, say, the circle around the units feet when selected? Thats jumpy. Units moving around? Thats jumpy and very slow.

Hey Mick, this slowdown occurs when the map is overloaded with units and unit animations. It will especially happen late game when there are lots of guys running around, and specifically when lots of unfortified units are on the map in any given area (because the unit default is animated while the fortify is not). The effect can actually be localized where it happens in some busy areas but not in other cleaner areas.

Is this a modified version of the game? Are you using unit graphics other than original firaxis units? Is your computer fairly current or older?

I've had this problem on both regular games and custom scenarios. Disabling animations in the Preferences menu doesn't help because that doesn't change the default animations. The only solution I've found so far is to actually edit the units in flicster to give them 1-frame defaults. Also, you can limit the total number of different unit types or PRTOs in the editor if it's a mod/scenario.

Unmodified version. Its the Steam $5 version.

I found the issue to be massively exasperated when I loaded in a game. Restarted said map with less civs. Roll back a save, massive FPS issues on the animations.

Rebooted the game and loaded, it was fine.

Weird.. So, basically I need to modify out the static animations? Great... is there a predone set?

No, there's no modified defaults for the firaxis units that I know about. That's just a possible solution I'm trying in a custom game. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to fix this issue.
