Bug or feature?

I've been noticing this happening a lot around some of my units, especially when it's the unit I'm moving. Several hexes around the unit are distinctly lower light intensity. It's obvious and very annoying. I was originally thinking that it was an accidental activation of the animated time of day option, but that's turned off.

So, if it's a bug, I hope somebody fixes it soon; it makes the map harder to read for those of us with poor eyesight. (Either that or give me something that can roll 40 years off this auld bod.)

If it's not a bug, does anybody know how to turn the stupid thing off?

YESS I’m glad I wasn’t the only one or imagining this! I also thought it had to do with the time of day animation but I’ve always had that off. I didn’t notice it to be around units though but more around specific cities or areas of the map from time to time. It comes and goes randomly and makes it very dark and hard to see.. almost as if some dark clouds are hanging over those hexes

I think that's exactly what it is: the graphics have a new cloud shadows setting, which is on by default, at least with the settings I was using before.

Yes, they added cloud shadows in GS, which darken several tiles as they float pass. I assume this is the issue that many of you have experienced. As @Amrunril stated, the cloud shadow setting is on by default in the Graphics menu. If you do not like it, it can be turned off.

Thank you for this thread and the proposed solution. I thought I was going nuts.

Does cloud shadow mean that we can expect hurricane or storm in that area? Or it is just cosmetic feature?

I believe cosmetic only, which is why I now turned it off to see things better.

On a related note, does anyone know how to improve the color saturation? The thing is, prior to GS , golden ages looked almost "too bright" and saturated. But now what I find is that the colors during golden ages are PERFECT on my screen and regular ages are a bit darker than I prefer, and dark ages are so dark that I have to turn off all my lights and play like a vampire.. Any way I can change things to how they were before so colors are more saturated? My monitor brightness is already maxed out.
