I currently own 4 copies of Gems, 1 of which is part of the deal with Napoleon. The other 3 are with me unused. As we are the only 2 civs left in the game.

Copenhagen and Dublin (City states) both send out messages asking for gems. This puzzled me as I already have Gems, with lots to spare.

on 1955, my deal with Naps ended and immediately my quest-line with both CS completes. But why?

Posting a save. From the diploscreen (deal history) you can see one copy (you can only ever trade 1 of a luxry) is going to napoleon.

Play a few turns to 1955 and the deal ends and my CS quests completes.

Are the gems showing up and giving you five happy faces in the Happy List?

I've experienced something like that; the only thing I can figure is that the cities want you to increase your gem count, not just provide them, in which case the return of the rented goods would provide the increase.

Seems sort of logical, otherwise if you managed to own an instance of every type of luxury, you could never get the WLTKD event again.

That makes sense, forces you to do work as City State quests are never automatically completed, though I had a funny instance once where Budapest wanted a scientist and then generated a scientist GL for me a few turns later. So they completed their own quest . I did have 1 gem resource outside my cultural borders, so that is probably what the game wanted me to connect.

Another potential bug.

If you check my happiness, it says I am getting cotton and silver.

2 issues here

1. There are silver resources, in Hiawatha's territory. But I don't have any trades with him, though I did liberate his city. And 1 silver mine is pillaged the other isn't even mined. Where am I getting the silver from?

2. It shows I have a cotton resource. But I can't for the life of me figure out where it is coming from.

Checked deal history under diplomacy screen. Nothing there to indicate anything. None of my allies have the resources either.

Can anyone look at the saved game and clarify? Looks like a bug to me.

I took a look!
Deal history shows that you traded cotton and silver with Ramesses earlier in the game.
It must be a bug!

I had the same issue. I had 1 wine that I traded away (don't ask). Then I took a city with 2 more wine and made it a puppet. However, I continued to have no wine. I tried to pillage+rebuild the plantations, I tried annexing the city, no luck. It was only when my trade deal ended many turns later and I got my original 1 wine back that it recalculated how much wine I actually had and credited me with the full 3.

Sorry for the bump.

Can anyone confirm they have experienced this bug?

More resource shenanigans.

I had 0 alimunim. Allied a CS (Budapest who has 8 native aluminum) resources, but my counted up top shows 14. See attached save.

If you play a few turns into this, you'll see it tick up to 16.

Also PUPPET STATES AI suck ass, building resource required buildings. They sucked them all dry with hydro plants and whatever, which made counting difficult. Had I wanted them for advanced weapons in a pinch war, i'd be screwed.

In my current game i have two gold resources. Definitely both with mine and not pillaged. Deal history says i have no current gold deals but when i wanna trade with Elizabeth the game says i have one gold to offer. I made a deal with her (gold vs cotton) and do not receive any +happiness from my gold. Clearly looks like a bug to me... one gold is lost somehow...

I have had this this issue as well - in 2 different games.
In my latest game, A deal in which I was sending 1 wine to someone for lump sum gold expired, but failed to return the wine to me. I had 3, 1 for myself, 1 in another trade and a third that should have been available. I should note that an enemy unit walked over one of my wineries in this game (but did not pillage).

In an earlier game I traded 4 resources for 2 resources. All 4 of my resources I had duplicate copies of. But after the trade I ended up less happiness and after checking I saw that I was not getting credit for 3 of the 4 resources that I traded. It was like I gave all of them away.

This is a really nasty bug.

I've seen numerous cases of similar weirdness around luxury resources and trades. Don't think I have a save any more from my first (and only complete) game, but the number of luxuries available for trade never seemed to jive with my count, from me and allies. For instance, one silver in my lands, and 2 allies, each giving me 1 silver (supposedly), but I only ever had 1 silver available to trade to the AI, and I would lose the happiness bonus if I traded that 1 away. Perhaps it would have updated to the correct 3 when that hypothetical deal ended, idk. I really miss the "clearbeard has 3" tooltip from Civ 4 when mousing over resource tags...

At least they can't build nukes or other units, so each city can only steal 1 coal, 1 aluminum, and 1 uranium from you!

I generally annexed a city when it started building a useless or otherwise unacceptable building. But then I was way ahead of everyone on my first game (at prince) at the time, so happiness wasn't an issue.

I had started a similar thread, but somehow it did not pick up. Here is what I had said:
Hi guys, I'm not posting much, 'cause you're so much better than me at this game. But hey, new flavor so I've got my chances

I made again the mistake of signing a passage agreement.
During my first game with Russia, the Ottomans entered my territory, stationed their troops around a city of mine and attacked it. That is, they declared war after entering. I believe that this sneaky behavior has been reported already. Maybe it is game design.

During my second game with Babylon, Catherine stationed an unit in my territory, on top of a Wine luxury resource. Well, it was enough to deny me five happy faces. So I proceeded to remove this unit, together with a few others, angering slightly the Tsar. However, to my surprise I did not gain the happiness, and the Wine was still not counted among my luxury resources. So I pillaged my own winery, and repaired it immediately after wards, and gained access to it anew. Same happened with Pearls, to which I still do not have access despite Catherine's Frigate sank. I have yet to pillage my workboat and set up a new one.
Did you observe this? Sounds more like a bug to me.

In short, I believe that AI units stationed over one of our luxury resources are cutting our supply for that resource, for the remaining of the game. This happens even if the AI was within our territory during a free passage agreement, even when the AI unit moves away from the luxury resource tile.

In a similar vein:

I had this deal with Monty where he got horses off me. The deal now ends every turn and I get my five horses back every turn. At present I have 60 surplus horses.
