Hello Civ Fanatics!

I'm Leandro Villela, writing from Brazil. I'm a history teacher for 7 years and a history professor for this year. I use the CIV series in my classes, I used Civ II, ( couldn't use CIV III) and now I'm using CIV IV.

There are several great mods in this site. Like Total Realism II, Max Riga MOD (not so historic) and others. But I'm trying to create a mod not just funny, but with even more historic realism. ( The people from Total Realism II were not very opened to my sugestions ) So I invite you all to test some of my modifications, and, more than everything, I'm recruiting "slave labor" to produce this mode with me. I don't know nothing about Python and Arts.

But if you think my ideas are great, please contact me leandrovillela@terra.com.br

Here are some of the changes

Mods

Colosseum trains units instead of only entretain people
Stone Wall - Similar to "Walls" but you can only build it having stone resource
Castle - You also need stone resource to build it. It improves economy and hapiness since the castles protect the serfs ands workers

New Buildings

Agora - Citizens can talk about theis problems, great people can be heard and thei appear more easly - Philosophy
Wooden Walls - Simples wooden protection, since stone walls become only possible with stone
Arsenal - Increases a bit the military production

Bonus
All the bonus resources were changed for more historical realism: Exemples
Gold - In the regular civilization it's a lesser bonus, it only improves a bit your economy. Here having a mine gold could change much more. Some kingdows, like portugal, prefered to protect the Gold mines ( in Brazil ) to protect the capital city ( Lisbon ) This mod represents it.
Gems - Also an importante monetary resource
Spice - Improves health too
Cow - Improves production ( it was vastly used to move the first wood machines )

Towns and Villages
It's not historical a town that produce no "hammer" even more a City rounded by towns and having no problem with food. So Towns, Villages and this kind of improvment were radicaly changed to produce much more gold and hammer and to "eat" more food. A great plan will have to done to avoid starvation. But there are new buildings that improves the food productions, like frigorifics that doubles the production of cows and other "meat" resources.

Civics

Representation - Towns produces more gold and a bit more production
Police State - Capital City less revolt, due military presence
- Towns produces less gold and more "hammers"
- Great People production is decreaced but the great control centralization
Universal Suffrage - Towns produces much more gold and more production
- Small Great People increase due the presence of all in government
- A minor reduction and the military production due the democracy burocracy and decentralization of power

Theocracy - Great People decreases in non state religion cities but increase in the state religion cities.
- Some free units - Some fanatics who wish to die for their religious leaders

Pacifism - Military Production greatly reduces
- Great People increases at small amount at non state religions cities
- Health increases a bit.

These are only the first modifications. It's not to be fully played now, It's only for you to test and, maybe, convince someone to help me in this project. Me and my students thank you.

Ola Leandro,

I like your ideas and your desire for historical realism , so i'll dowload what you've done so far and give you my opinion.

cheers

i could sometimes help with graphics especially - not to much (cause i'm working on WW2 mod) - just 2-3 models (it could be more if it'll be connected somehow to WW2) - and rather not organical forms - i prefare mechanical things, buildings etc ,

i rarely follow requests, but i'll give this small brick to the the science and knowledge wall :)

you can contact me easly via yahoo messenger - asiox3@yahoo.com

Have tried your mod , here's some feedback

played at warlord level with random leader on fractal map.

no wild animals at all , barbs didn't appear untill 800 bc and then only one warrior

very few resources , some pigs and some rice, and a gold mine popped late on

poor start in the middle of jungle, but research and production seemed to be going pretty quickly , a little too quickly.

without the barbarians it felt like it was too much of a land grab , my neighbours were america and india.

As quickly as I was researching and building (90%) , by the time I had made contact with every one I was last (on warlord level !!!)

When Ghandi built the apollo programme in 1760 and had finished his first casing by 1770 I knew I was in trouble,
Frederick built it in 1785.

I think the arsenal is a bit too powerful, I built it in my capitol running burocuracy and was outputting cavalry every turn.

Bug: Library appears twice in the build menu.

I like the idea of wooden walls but without the barbs they didn't matter.
I like the idea of towns contributing but might be a bit too overdone.
Money wasn't a problem in this game 15 cities built and virtualy max research
I was running heridatory rule , buroc, free religion, open markets.

I don't know how the AI researching at turbo speed relates to your changes but it certainly was a different game.

cheers

Thanls for playing it and giving me a feedback.

I made only these few mods I wrote there, so I did nothing about the barbarians. But indeend I'll have to do this when the work continues.

Thanks for the "Library" bug, This was really my mistake.

I made no modifications in modern age since today, so I think the Appolo Program problema is Civ's periodization problem. I really liked the "Total Realism" solution with just Eras and no Years. If Anyone help me to do this.

I'll keep you all in touch and try to reload the new versions every week.

Thanks
Leandro

I can do some serious xml working, since my skills have improved vastly. I´m however working with my own maybe-sometime-to-be-published mod and I consume time for that (and playing of course), but I should be able to help if and when needed.

:bump: Just bumping

looks good.
Because u r a history teacher i expect the game 2 be more realistic in a fun way. hope thats not 2 much

Interestign mod needs more to it and i hope this community of modders can help you out ..<my coding skills are fairly rudimentary anymore i learedn fortran 4, cobal, and pascal mostly useless these days althou most of that does translate to C it isnt the same by any means.>

Hmmn just a thought have you checked out the ancient mediterrainin mod as a possible startign point for your endevors...What they have doen is defiantly a great startgin point for what it appears that you want.
