Mac Civ III Editor Help Questions

1. Yep. Several people have noticed that. Hopefully Brad can find out what's wrong.

2. Yeah, I think someone else noticed that, although I haven't had the problem myself. I can't seem to be able to change which government is transition/start government, though, which is kinda odd...

3. Odd.

4. Nope, the changes won't take effect. The rules for each game are also stored in the .sav files. So you will have to start up a new game to see your rule changes take effect.

5. Just add a new unit, naming it "Squid" and such. Then, just set the stats you want, etc. Since the animation/civilopedia entries are in place, it should require minimal effort. Basically the same thing for the Commercial Center as well, since it already has Civilopedia entries ready n all.

There's an excellent tutorial for the overall modding of the game here:

Yes. I have.

You need to add a new row in the citizen types pcx file (i forget the name right now). Just basically make the canvas larger in a program like the GIMP or Photoshop, copy the last row and paste it down underneath the last one. Fill in the remaining background with the same pink/purple background, and edit the people on the last line to your hearts content. If you don't have time to do all that, you can download the double your pleasure mod and just use their pcx file - it has 5 (IIRC) addtional slots. Then add a type in the editor and tada, there you go!

...thanks, I really apreciate this. Now, I tried yesterday to change the basic barbarian to swordman just to push the limit of the difficulty and it ended up not changing anything... even if I changed only that and saved and all... so I'm just beginning to be a little upset about all that I can't do with the editor...

Hey guys!

Although I've visited these forums for quite some time, I just registered, which makes me a complete newbie... hence forgive me, if the following problem was already described somehwere else:

When I create a scenario and place goody huts, the game will later crash, as soon as I move a unit onto one... This hasn't happened all the time - when I edited the first scenario things went well, but now this error keeps reoccuring.

Thanks for any help on this. :)

I have this exact same problem now. I have used the editor to make some changes (read: completely unrealistic andvantageous conditions) and have had no problems. Then just recently I dared to go in to change the Rules, and after messing around in there, the Goodie Hut Curse strikes. Every time I re-start the scenario and either move into a hut or expand into a hut, the game crashes.

Any help would be much appreciated. :wallbash:

Thanks for the site! :worshp:

Yes, I also noticed by now that the problem must indeed be linked to changing the rules.

I got a new strange behavior yesterday. After that I had installed some of the snoopy terrain (the irrigation) and added some resources the run animation stopped to work in the desert!

Walking to and from desert tiles are OK, but walking between makes the figure becoming unanimated. It seems to be coupled to the specific .bic file as the normal games runs as usual (with the snoopy irrigation, but without the resources).

Anybody seen this before? Anybody know the reason (so I can avoid it in future mods)?

BTW the editor still blanks my first resource sometimes, I had to write in the civilopedia entry and the value of horses twice ysterday.

Quasar,
I think I may have moved past the Goodie Hut Curse... What I ended up doing was making sure I downloaded the very latest Editor, along with the .nib files, then deleted the old Editor and put the new one in. I think the goodie hut thing was most likely related to the previous bug that would remove/blank-out the first field if each drop-down item in the Rules section if you changed any area then moved to another drop-down menu for more changes. Try opening up the .bic you created in the current editor you have, and look at the Civilization drop-down in the Rules area. If the first field (Barbarian CIV) is blanked out, then you know you have to get the new editor. Don't know if this helps, but it worked for me.

Hey, thanks for the help, verde_sol! I really appreciate it.
Unfortunatly it didn't work for me... I have the latest version of the editor, and it still blanks out those fields. I corrected them, and still the game crashes in connection to moving or expanding into any goody hut... It's truly frustrating.
